Hi Wallyf,

Nice to hear from you although I don't think our ancestors match directly.   My John Young c 1756 Benholm married Mary Waldie in 1780 in Benholm.

There were a lot of Youngs in Johnshaven and it's not easy to differentiate between them as the same Christian names were popular in different families.

Yours

Many thanks, Valda, I think it probably is 'workman'.

Dear Friend,

Can you tell me what W. N. M. stands for as an occupation in the 1841 census.

Thank you.

Does anyone know exactly what is meant by the term 'fund holder' as used to describe the person's occupation on a census?

Thank you

Please would someone be kind enough to look on the 1911 census for Axel Williams c 1910.    He should be in Swansea with my father John Reginald Williams 1910.     The  mother is Gwendoline Edith Williams though it could be Edith Gwendoline Williams as she used her name both ways around.     Another son was Basil Hugh Stanley Williams 1907.

thank you

Dear KLM,

thank you so much for looking for me.   Unfortunately the wife must be Phoebe.     He was in Tredegar, Mons by 1809 on the baptism of his daughter Elizabeth (Gx3 grandmother of mine) and in Tredegar on the 1841 census so it is another to cross of the list.   He died in 18546 of typhoid fever.

thank you again

I wonder if anyone can find a marriage for me for William Watson baptised 16th April 1785.      He was born in Warmsworth.       The wife's name should be Phoebe/Feby/Pheby.    I can find nothing on the family search IGI.

with many thanks
Diana

Dear Osprey,

Thank you that is so kind of you.   I am looking for a Richard Jenkins c 1776 and died at Tredegar in  1843 who said he was nbc on the 1841 census and am now wondering if that information was incorrect like some others that I have.    Unfortunately he died before 1851 to check so I really do not have much to go on.

The first born son of Richard Jenkins 1776 and Ann nee Moss 1782 Hunslet, Leeds was named George born 1801 and died 1802.   The naming pattern is strong in this family and so I have been looking for a George Jenkins with a possible wife Elizabeth, Sarah or Frances with son Richard c1776.

His grandson Richard Jonathan Jenkins 1840 had 35 acres of land in Raglan before 1871 even though he was a civil engineer  living in London.    This was the clue that set me looking in the Raglan Area.

I will have a look at the genuki site and see what I can find.   George Jenkins and Elizabeth nee Powell seem to have moved as you say.

thank you again
Diana
