Good going, you have certainly been doing your research.

Per your request, John is my Great Grandfather x 3 also.

The information you provided is very intriguing as I had been wondering where John & Margaret, as well as their children, were buried.

My research had also shown 5 children but with differences : Margaret (dressmaker), Alexander (miner) & John (pit labourer) -
The 2 other children I believed were: George (have little record of), Jane White (name continued into next generation).  Jane died 1899 suddenly aged 64 but had married twice, first to Archibald Renwick 1853 who died 1870, then to John McPherson 1871.  Have no record of Isabella.

Never got the opportunity to check the list of accidents in mines in West Lothian, but had also been advised an injured party's name may not be on this list for particular reasons.  Not living in Scotland has disadvantages - have to choose carefully when & what to research during visits.

I would be happy to communicate further either by forum or email, to cross reference our trees & share any relevant information, if you are interested.

Thanks

Mark

Sounds like we have got our McMorrans crossed, though cannot be sure.

McMorran was a family line I did not do too much research it simply crossed my tree.

I simply have Matthew 1770 - 1849, Daniel 1813 - 1900?, Margaret - end of my McMorran line as she seemed to be the sole child.  Margaret 1856 - 1927 seemly inherited the farm on her fathers death, though have never been able to confirm this as a will for either Matthew or Daniel alludes me.  Margaret married John Barry in Strean church per earlier post.

I hope that can shed some light on the McMorrans that I researched & clear up any confusion.  Let me know who you researched & the will you found as it intrigues me.

Hi

Does anyone have access to the records of Westcalder Cemetary or know where, if at all, they can be accessed from?

I am trying to find:

William Henry Weir, died 1981 & Nellie Weir (nee Haggarty) 1998.  I know they were buried in Westcalder cemetary & the grave was full when Nellie was laid to rest.  What other generation is in the grave?

Thanks

I don't think that your Elizabeth is related, unfortunately.  John MacAulay was born 1807 in Lanark & married Margaret Forrester.  They had at least 3 children - Margaret, Alexander & John, however the first 2 died, quite young, without marrying or having any children.  John moves to Whitburn & marries Margaret Pender 02/07/1869 - they have 6 children William, Elizabeth, James, Jane white & John Ferguson.

Good luck on your research, if you discover anything interesting let us know.

Thanks

Thanks for your advice Springbok.  I will have a further look around the site & see what's the best board to post this query in, breaking it up, as appropriate.

Would you mind if I butt in.  Boyd seems to a popular name & I have a few in my trees - quite a bit away from Carrickfergus though but I will leave it up to you - any info is better than none - is what I have learnt.

Samuel Boyd b-1860 Married Elizabeth Nicol, 08/01/1881, Ahoghill Presbyterian Church.  They move to Scotland, where Mary, Samuel, Thomas, James & Elizabeth are born before at least Mary returns to Ireland to marry William (Willie) Pearson -22/12/1911 @ Taylorstown Pres. Church, Co.Antrim.

Good luck on your research

Lanarkshire / Why did they move?

I am a bit of a novice at this so apologise if this in the wrong board.

I am researching a family line "MCAULEY"? but you can make up your own spelling of it as it has changed so much over the years I have lost count.

The earliest I have been able to trace is Francis MACAULEY married Helen FERGUSON - Barony Parish, 18/03/1802, they had 2 children - John & George, both born in Lanarkshire in 1807 & 1811 respectively but by 1835 John had moved to Westcalder were he marries Margaret FORRESTER & has 3 children Margaret, John & Alexander.

In those days such a move was drastic, would anyone know what would have caused such a move.

Also I would be very interested in hearing from anyone with any "MCAULEYS"? in their tree or have come across any from Lanarkshire (even Westcalder) whilst conducting their research.

Thanks

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / McAuleys? of Westcalder
« on: Tuesday 24 July 07 22:55 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone ever come across, during their research - or in their own family tree - the surname MCAULEY.  There seems to be so many different ways of spelling it, MCAULLEY, MACAULAY.....  I believe the family lived in Westcalder from 1800 onwards & would be very interested to hear if anyone has come across a link, either during their research or in their own tree.

I beleive this line originally came from Lanarkshire in the late 19 century, but have been unable to prove it.

Thanks
