Using the link you gave, entering the surname Thomas and British Isles, IGI information is a list of 50 names only - the correlation of names by IGI does need to be updated.  Also the information is only a christening date.
I still hope that someone has access to BIRTH dates through a parish register

Thank you Pauline for the speedy reply.   Unfortunately the only reference on IGI batch you quoted,  is the christening date of one of the children - Isaiah.
Other checks and references on IGI give 2different birthdates for Jane Thomas - thus I would like for this request to remain open in the event  that someone has access to Parish Records of Hemyock.

Devon / THOMAS family in Hemyock, Devon.

If any one has access to the Hemyock parish registers, I am looking for any information on the family of James Thomas and Mary Lasky who had 5 children - Elizsa; Jane; Humphrey; Ann; Isaiah;  who were born  in Devon prior to the family immigrating to South Africa with the 1820 Settlers.  In South Africa another 5 children were born - Arabella; James; Mary Ann; John and Elizabeth.
TIA.

Hi Kirsty,

James Scott was married in the Methodist church and all his children were also baptised in the Methodist church.

The 1841 census gives Williams address as Redford Gate and the next page gives the Orr family as residing at Redford Place.  Thanks for the google  map link.

Hi,
Thank you to Kirsty, Lynda and Hume for all the generous help & suggestions - I really do appreciate it.
My information is based on the following:
In 2003 my lineal descendacy was verified by William Jervois, the Resident Genealogist at the Albany Museum in Grahamstown, South Africa.  According to his information, James Scott was born 9 Aug1820  [not 10 Aug as I previously stated], Edinburgh, Scotland, married 10 Jan 1850 in Peddie Methodist Church, Cape Colony, South Africa. At the time of his marriage was a private in the Royal Sappers & Miners, non-commissioned branch of the Royal Engineers. [all verified on marriage cert.]
Subsequently I have found James tied to William Scott and Catherine? while searching IGI records and therefore my search to confirm/deny this family tie.

Thank you Hume - I  have picked up that info on the 1841 census.  It is William Scott first marriage  to ?Catherine?  with at least one child, James b. 10 August 1820, that I would like to persue.  So, I am still searching for William's  birth, death and marriage date to ?Catherine ?Catharine ? surname, birth and deathdates.

Thanks Kimberley - have used most of the sites listed. Unfortunately some links do not work.  William Scott has eluded me now for 7 years!

I am trying to find the death of William Scott who was aged 65 at the 1841 census and lived at Redford Gate, Colinton.
Also listed  in the 1841 census is James Scott aged 20years who is reputed to have joined the The Scottish Engineers Royal Corps of Sappers & Miners and was posted to South Africa in about 1842.
