Fife / Re: Robert Dempster b.1808 Cupar

THANK YOU SO much Monica. I really appreciate your time to put together those references. The 'musicman' website I referred to in my post as Edith Dempster does suggest there that her father was 2 years old when her g/father was charged. I will look at your other references as I just want official confirmation either by detailing his age or marital status in the government docs!!
Very kind of you to assist. Will let you know how I go.

Fife / Robert Dempster b.1808 Cupar
« on: Thursday 05 February 15 01:05 GMT (UK)  »
There seems to be some confusion in family history forums/ databases online about the exact birth and parents/ wife of a Robert Dempster who was charged with murder in 1830 near to Cupar [details online but no birth date]. He died in 1839 aboard a prison hulk.

Edith Dempster [a well known socialite and of the peerage], a descendant claimed that it was the Robert Dempster who was born 2 March 1808 in Cupar. If so, was he married to Sarah Lawrence [Laurence] and had two children Robert [b.1828] and some say Elizabeth [b.1835] was his daughter too. However Elizabeth used the FORRET surname [mother's second marriage to Thomas Forrett] in the 1861 census. In 1871 she reverted to the Dempster surname [probably because of her brother doing well with a gas company].

Online there are confusing/ conflicting details. I need some confirmation that the 1808 Robert was THE murderer AND husband of Sarah Lawrence!!

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: John Rushton/ Frances Robinson

Hello Alexandra, I am interested in the names of any descendants of William Cash and Frances you might know. I am descended from a William Cash b.c. 1819 at Bilsby LIN who married Charlotte Desforges. Is there anything familiar here? I do know my William's father was William but know nothing else.
Thanks

Cass, I not only live very close to Frenchs Forest Cemetery, I am the 'honorary' historian! I realise your request is a few years old but if you have not had any responses, I'd love to send you photos. I walk through the cemetery a few times every week.
I'm not sure how to exchange email addresses on this forum, but I'll look for your response.
I love the cemetery and its stories.

Travelling People / Re: CANE and LOWE [Lauri] family actors
« on: Monday 07 December 09 06:17 GMT (UK)  »
Sally, it was really nice of you to make contact about the Lauri family. I have been researching the CANE family for my cousin and found over 1000 newspaper references to HARRY CANE who married Emma LOWE [m.1877 Birmingham]. Emma was born in a Workhouse in 1854 to Eliza Lowe and met Harry Cane [actor] while they were acting in pantomimes. I found a link to the Lauri family as I found that some changed their name to LAURI [correct?]

All of the above I've not looked at for six months so if you see any connection I'd love to know more about Eliza.

My personal email is bethstruan at yahoo.com.au [note bethstrUAn]

Beth

I have been researching my family history (Lowe-Lauri) and came across this website with a post from yourself last year.

A second cousin and I have been do quite a lot of research and have found various bill posters.  But there is still a lot of information missing.  I would like to know how the canes are related to the Lowes (lauri's) as i have not come across this.

Regards
Sally Lauri

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Nellfield Cemetery Aberdeen
« on: Thursday 27 November 08 06:11 GMT (UK)  »
My family was buried in Nellfield Cemetery Aberdeen from 1874. They were the PARK family [including a Frank and Joseph and about seven others]. I found a reference to the burials in a newspaper item in 1899 regarding the Nellfield Cemetery Scandal when bodies were removed [in a gruesome way] and plots resold.

I would very much like to have the details of those buried there if anyone has access to any transcriptions.

Thanks

I have a really very interesting and amazing newspaper article relating to a William COUTTS who was the Superintendant of Nellfield Cemetery Aberdeen in 1899. If you really would like to know about a true 'skeleton in the cupboard' do email me and I'll give you the details. :o
