Thank you carolineasb

I knew about Paternity Decrees and had searched for one of those but not heard about   Decree of Declarator of Parentage which sent me scurrying off to google it.  It appears to be much later than I am looking for but in google results it threw up some very interesting pages from the University of Glasgow that were well worth reading, so thank you.

Argyllshire / Isabella Crauford (Crawford) born 1796 approx. Died 1875
« on: Saturday 16 June 18 11:15 BST (UK)  »
I have the proclamation for marriage of Isabella Crauford (or is it Crawford) and Robert Jackson in 1818 in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire.  It says they are "both in this parish".

I have the names of Robert's parents (Robert Jackson and Janet Spier) from his death certificate/record in 1860 and his birth record in Scotland Select Births and Baptism index on Ancestry.

I am searching without success for the parents of Isabella as they were unfortunately not listed on her death certificate/record in 1875 in Kilbarchan.  The informant was her son Robert and she is listed as the widow of Robert Jackson, carter (which was his occupation in 1851 and again on his death certificate/record)

The only other information I have about her comes from census records from 1841-1871 in Kilbarchan.  In 1851 she was with Robert and it says she was 56 born in Kilbarchan.  In 1861 she is with a daughter and it says she was 66, born in Kilbarrick, Argylleshire.  In 1871 she is with the same daughter and it says she was 76, born in Kilberry, Argylleshire.

Once when I was at an WDYTYA exhibition in London I was able to ask the Scotland's People stand to search for her (that was where I got her death record) and they couldn't find a birth either but that was 5+ years ago and I live in hope that her record will turn up at some point.

Any pointers as to where else I might search for her please?

Thank you ev, that could be the answer for Janet.

I assumed (I know, I shouldn't have done, smack hands) that both children were from the same mother.

Thank you so much for your help

Thank you Monica, yes that is the family and I believe is most likely the birth as they were Kilbarchan people.  Pinkerton ..... must look and see if there are any Pinkerton's in that area.  I have tried searching for a paternity decree but couldn't find one.

Now to see if I can find the younger Janet.

Thanks for your help.

Renfrewshire / Henry Webster and Agnes(s) Jackson

I am hoping that someone may be researching this couple who lived in Kilbarchan.  Both were born in the early 1820s and they married in 1842.  Using Ancestry and Find My Past for transcriptons of 1851, 1871, 1881, 1891 census records I have slowly been adding family.  I also had the 1861 image from Scotland's People and now have the 1901 image from Scotland's People.

I was suspicious about the two younger daughters listed on the 1881 and 1891 census as it made Agness rather old to be having children.  The 1901 census image shows them as granddaughters!

What I have yet to work out is which of the elder children of Henry and Agness is the parent.  I have a feeling it might either be Isabelle born 1843 who is not with them after 1861, or William born 1851 who is not with them after the 1871 census.  Daughter Agness born 1847  and son Robert born 1856 stay at home, single, but it could just as likely be them.

Henry's wife, Agness, is my g g aunt.  Can anyone help me shed light on this family please.

Thank you
Liz

Kent Lookup Requests / Westwell Bastardy Records: Chambers
« on: Saturday 20 May 17 12:23 BST (UK)  »
Jane was the daughter of Sarah Chambers, a single woman, and baptised April 1829 in Westwell.  As per the Parish Register.
In May 1829 Sarah Chambers married a William Friday in Westwell.  As per the Parish Register.
Jane was given as Jane Chambers on her marriage certificate when she married Robert Linkins and yet she gave her maiden name of Friday for her children when they were born.

Given Sarah and William married only a month after Jane's birth I wondered if he was listed as the reputed father in any bastardy bonds paperwork.

I would be really grateful for a look up for this, please.

I am sorry but I don't know any more detail than I gave.  Thank you so much for taking the time to go but as it would appear to be a mammoth task then please don't trouble yourself further.  I do really appreciate your help.

Thanks
Liz

Renfrewshire / Robert Jackson - Kilbarchan New Burying Ground
« on: Saturday 02 April 16 21:53 BST (UK)  »
I have the Statutory Death Record for Robert Jackson born 1773 and died
13 June 1860.  In that record it said that the Burial Ground was :New
Burying Ground, Kibarchan.
His parents were Robert Jackson and Janet Jackson, maiden name Spiers.
His wife was Isabella Jackson, maiden name Crawford.

I wondered whether there was anyone local on the list that would be able
to go and look for the gravestone for me and transcribe or take a photo.

Thank you
Liz
