Family History Beginners Board / Official Pardons

Hi

I have been researching my ancestor, John Maud who was convicted of bigamy in 1819 and sentenced to 7 years transportation. Before he sailed, he was held on a prison hulk and the records say he was pardoned in 1820.
Does anybody know how common it was to be pardoned and why he might have been? And also if there are any records of pardons which I could use to find out more?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Rachel

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1841/51 Census Look-up

Hello

I have been trying to find an ancestor, William Tolman, on the 1841 and 1851 censuses but without any luck. William was christened in 1810 in Havant, Hampshire and I have a possible marriage for him to Jane Morley in 1843 in Alverstoke.

I would appreciate any help in finding him.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Can't track down on 1851

Hi

I would really appreciate some help tracking down my ancestors, Edwin and Harriet(t). I have traced them on all of the censuses except 1851. I just can't find them using any kind of search technique I can think of!  ??? Their details are:

Edwin Fage was born in 1827 in the Lying In Hospital, Holborn. On other censuses he gives his birthplace as St Giles, London or just London. In 1849 he married Harriet Ann Hollins in Alverstoke, Hampshire. Their first son, Edwin, was born in Portsea, Hampshire in 1850. Their next two children (1852 and 1855) were both born in Lambeth (Edwin snr. grew up in the Lambeth/Southwark area and in 1851 his parents & younger siblings were living in Friar Street, Southwark) but then they moved back to Portsea permanently. Harriet was born in 1828 in Portsea.

Thanks

Hi Pat

The date of death was 03 August 1886, and the informant was Maria Cross, the step-daughter of Joseph, who was living at the same address (109 Bradford Road).
