Hi Ronnie G

Of course William was also a link, and I never thought of John, just thought of Joseph.

All of Joseph John's children were born in Scotland, so maybe Moses was named after an uncle in Ireland.

Thanks for the web-sites, will check them out.

Hi Ronnie G

Thanks for that info.

My grandfather (Thomas Woods) had 3 sisters and 3 brothers, William, Moses, and Joseph, so the only link to the names you given me is his own, Thomas.

Is there somewhere on the internet that you can actually look up the Griffith's Valuation entries?  I have found info on the book, but can't find actual entries.

Hi Loryann and Ronnie G,

Thanks for replying.

I only know that the Woods or Wood family were Protestant from somewhere in Armagh.

I have no more information  other than what I wrote in my initial inquiry.

I know my grandfather was Thomas Woods, as I have his birth, marriage and death certificates, from Scotland's People.  On all his certificates his father is Joseph John Woods, but on the marriage cert of Joseph John the name is Wood, and it shows his father as William Wood. I don't think William went to Scotland.

Joseph John married a Janet Kerr in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1877, and according to his death certificate would have been born about 1855.

William Wood (a farmer) was married to a Jane Troughton.

I know that Wood could have been an error made by the registrar at the time, and the name likely is Woods.

Hi again,

Thanks again for that info.

They must have been Protestant, as todays Stewarts are.

I have learned more about the Stewarts in the last 10 minutes from you, than we ever knew, so we have no idea what church they would have went to.

I will have a look at the Bann Valley website. Do you have the actual web address?

Is Bann Valley the area that they may have lived in?

Would I get the civil records from the PRONI site?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I find trying to get Irish info very hard, as I had no clue as to where the ancestors came from. which is a big stumbling block.

Again, thanks very much.

Hi aghadowey,

Thank you very much for that information.

I am glad that we finally have an idea where in Ireland my wife's ancestors come from, as we had no idea if they came from the north or the south of Ireland.

Could you tell me how we would go about getting copies of their documents?

I've been tracing the Scottish records through Scotland's People, and you can print your own copies of their documents. Can you do that with Irish records?

Thanks, once again, and I hope to hear further from you.

Ireland / Stewarts from Ireland
« on: Friday 13 April 07 00:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to trace my wife, Sandra Stewart's family from somewhere in Ireland.

I have no idea whatever, where in Ireland they came from, only their names and some dates.  I know this is a long shot, but maybe somebody may know of them.

Joseph Stewart was a copper worker who was married to Matilda Martin. He was born in Ireland in 1870 and she was born in 1868.  They were married in Ireland, then went to Scotland, again I don't know when.

Joseph's father was also called Joseph. He was a farm laborer and married Elizabeth  McAteer, who may have been born in1834.

Matilda's parents were Jamieson Martin, a shoemaker,  and Martha Getty.

All the information I have gotten is from the death certificates of Joseph (1915) and Matilda (1920) in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 1901 census shows Elizabeth living with her son Joseph in Glasgow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Armagh / Woods or Wood of Armagh
« on: Sunday 18 March 07 01:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
New to this site.
Have traced a few family members in Scotland and now I'm stumped, as the next generation, back, come from somewhere in Armagh, I believe.
My gr.grandfather Joseph John Woods or Wood (I have docs spelling both ways) was born in Ireland, in Armagh, I'm told, about 1855.  He went to Ayrshire, Scotland some time before 1877, (he was married in Ayrshire then).
His father was William Wood or Woods, a farmer,  who was married to Jane, whose maiden name looks like Troughton. Have no dates or any other information at all.
I don't know if William went to Scotland, but I can't find him on Scotland's People

Is there any web-sites in Ireland that allow you search, find and print your own documents like Scotland's People does?

Any help you good people can give me will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Cannuck
