No suprises there with McTaggart being given different spellings...i have McTaggart, McIntgart, McTagairt, and they're all the same family :) (then theres the McDougall's who were McDougald's)

US Lookup Requests / James Dougherty born NYC 1759
« on: Saturday 10 September 16 03:55 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me find more info
on James Doughtery born 9 Nov 1759, NYC, USA...he was christened
18 Nov 1759 at the Trinity Parish Church, all we know is that his parents
were named Neal and Mary (not sure of her maiden name) i'd like to know
if any possible record might be able to be found to show where his
parents were from (haven't thus far been able to find a marriage
record, and there don't appear to be any other children born in the
USA).

any help would be most appreciated.

regards
Richard

thanks Alan, yep we already had that info on Mary Ann and William's baptisms, this confirmed their parents as being William Hollingshead (1794-1834) and Margaret Dearman (1785-1826), oddly it took until her 9th of 10th child before Mary Ann named a son William after her brother and father :)

this appears to be Elizabeth's father William dying in 1847 - i found a date/age on genuki and its a match at least :) ;D

the Sarah Ann i think is someone else, not the mother

there are these death reg's -unfortunately at that time ages were not given

FreeBMD
Death reg
all in Williton reg dist (Minehead is within this diistrict)
William Stacey Dec qtr 1849 10 413
William Stacy Sept qtr 1847 10 295
Sarah Ann Stacey Mar qtr 1849 10 382

may be worth further investigation

cheers jorose, yeah i've tried trawling through that site - with not much my Norwegian isn't that great (or non-existent, but we do pick things up with the written word - just don't ask me to speak it....:)

I had hoped there would be some source for being able to order certificates like most other countries - but they don't seem to roll like that over there in the land of my ggg-grandmother - or do they???

Suz, you're a legend :) thank you so much - i think the fact that Elizabeth has been farmed off at such a young age to become someone's servant pretty much tells us in all probability that the parents were most likely dead by 1851. So i will definitely investigate those leads you have kindly provided.

I did see that someone on ancestry does have sisters Sarah and Charlotte (although still no birth/baptism dates for Sarah). It seems Charlotte is the key to me proceeding further on the maternal line, quite fitting really when you consider i have a 1 year old named Charlotte :)

thank you heaps :)
Richard
