Hi Golfer - Cannot remember if I passed this info on..
Death cert for Margaret Hall GRO466/00 0017.
Died 12 Mar 1868 Clackmananshire, Widow of John Hall (coal weigher) age 72
Cause - old age.  Informant John Hall (son) present.  Parents Thomas McNaughton (gardener) deceased & Ann McNaughton m.s. Smith , deceased.

Can send copy if you like.

All the best Pat  ;D
Hi Pat. As you know, there are a few John/Margaret Hall's of Clack. This is why if the MI of the John Hall who died 1860 included his wife as Margaret McNaughton everything else would fall into place. Cheers, Golfer.

I had a short look around the headstones in Clackmannan churchyard.  Most of them are weathered or lichen-covered 18th century stones.  There appear to be few of around the date you mention, though as I said, it was a short search.  Did you mean the burial ground around the kirk itself or Clackmannan cemetery which lies about a mile away?
Hi Maddymoss. John's death cert states "Buried in Churchyard of Clackmannan". Appreciate your time. Cheers, Golfer.

I would appreciate if anyone in the Clackmannan vicinity might check the inscription on JOHN HALL's monument. He is buried in the Clack Churchyard (born 15 Aug 1797 DIED 17 JUNE 1860). Wish to cfm the maiden name of his wife Margaret. The Clackmannan Council advise their records only go back to 1877. Cheers, Golfer.

Pat. Unfortunately still no birth certs for John, Francis, or Rbt Bruce. I have based John Hall's verification of parents and his wife's name from his death register. Also known marriage to Jane Chalmers. Death: d. 10 Aug 1895 age 68, High St, Clackmannan, m. to Jane Chalmers, Parents: John Hall (deceased), Margaret McNaughton (deceased), inf son John Hall Abbey Rd, Stirling.

Apologize for lack of response, been away. My original posting was for possible info to pass on to anyone who may have needed it. As stated, the line I am researching is the STAPLES family and I have no other data on his wife Sarah Banks's family other than what I provided. Sorry.

G'day Pat. The mysterious JOHN. Death John Hall (b. 1828 Clackmannan) spouse Jane Chalmers, died 1895. Parents John Hall/Margaret McNaughton. One more son accounted for, now to connect Francis and Robert Bruce.

Another reason why I was discounting McNaughton was that I noted on IGI that John Hall married Margaret McNaughton 26 Mar 1879 but now realize that date should have read 26 Mar 1820. hmmm. I have also found another son credited to John and Margaret: Thomas Hall born 24 Aug 1820. John Hall's father name was Thomas. But still no Francis, Robert Bruce, or John to cement the deal. The Cemetery Office have advised me that their records only go back as far as 1877 so I'm hoping someone responds favourably to this topic.

So Pat, we seem to keep going around in circles which makes finding out what John Hall's M.I. reads so important. There are so many John Hall/Margaret ? in Clackmannan and area and the fact that only children Anne/James McNaughton/Malcom are found for parents John Hall/Margaret McNaughton without mention of Francis or Robert Bruce and finally that on Ancestry 1851 census "Margaret Hall wife of John living on High Street, Clackmannan, born abt 1795 in Kinnoul, Perth" and that on IGI I found MARGARET Thomson born 1795 Kinnoul, Perth makes me favour Thomson over McNaughton. (as an aside I believe Mgt McNaughton was born Kenmore, Perth).
