Thanks for that - so nothing 'Scottish' about it :( .  And similar to calling a child 'chicken'.....

I had ancestor with name Anne Mackintosh and in marriage cert (London 1835) was written in brackets  'Henney' and this later was recorded as Emmi in census entries.  We suspect the Mackintosh was Scottish background where Henney was a common petname or so said my mother.

I am looking for a copy of this weekly magazine published in London.  I am looking for the edition of Sept 19th 1940.  Apart from keeping an eye out on Ebay etc, is there an archive for old editions?  I have found a receipt for an article my father wrote in that edition but no copy of the magazine.  It concerned bomb damage to his Triumph!

Tipperary / Re: Lookup request - Birth - Frances Bennett Odlam b. approx 1839

The Irish Civil register for births, marriages and deaths is freely available online.  This started in 1864 and is mostly digitalised for births over 100yrs, marriages over 75 yrs and deaths over 50 yrs.  You might find a death for one of the parents in Co Tipperary that might give other family details eg a family member who registered the death.

Kildare / Re: 9th Lancers Photograph

Thank you for that prompt reply and very interesting article and further info on Harry Andree.  Yes I saw his census record and it was a substantial house  ( I think nine rooms?) so he must have used portion of same for his work.  It is a bit of a mystery as to why he would relocate to a rural part of Ireland at that time. His wife was Welsh and he had two children.   I think his second christian name should be Curt anglised from Kurt?

I am also on the trail of identifying a soldier that was photographed by "H Andree NEWBRIDGE".
The photographer was I think Harry Andree and he was in Ireland for the 1911 census and in Co Kildare where town of Newbridge is located and also where the big army camp was located on the Curragh.

I have found a couple of graves on a family line, cousins, and not direct but I know there are no descendants for one of them and the last interment has not been inscribed on the stone.  I think there is a some form I can fill out and have witnessed to 'claim' the grave and then be able to organise a restoration or update of details.   Enquire in the cemetery office?

Surrey / Re: Mitcham War Memorial - Are you related? (Baker to Holdsworth)

A. Green was my grandfather Alfred Green(1895 - 1917).  He was from Streatham but married a local girl and played for the Mitcham Cricket Club located close to the memorial.
