I think I may be onto a major breakthrough in joining two Calder lines. It is possible that this marriage is between first cousins and it appears that there were no children. William who died 11 November 1826 made a Testament on 22 April 1822 in which he left everything to his wife Agnes as "sole executor and universal legator".

Can anyone explain how this extract can be seen to confirm that the date of the marriage between William and Agnes is 1783 as stated. ???

Have you got futher information on their children? Who they married, where they went etc? You might have to do some sidways searching!!

I have done a bit more digging and have discovered that the last two on your list were the same person. I have now settled on Carstairs with the following note in my database.

"The birthplace of Elizabeth Benny has been hard to find however I have chosen Carstairs as it is within 15 Km of Bents where her first two children were born. She was baptised in both Carstairs and the nearby parish of Carnwath where it is probable that her mother-in-law Margaret Somerville was also born."

Thanks Anne.

I'm not sure whether 'soundex' does the same or not. I usually end up trying so many different variations that I can't remember what half of them were!

Well it DID NOT find the Cadder birth.

They all look much of a muchness but I tend towards the Carstairs one as it is the closest to the town of Bent where the first two children were born. But why William would have been 30 km south from Shirva where he was born and where the next two children were born is anybody's guess. Unfortunately the children's names give no indication - only have a George, William, Agnes and Thomas so far. The Agnes pointed me to Muiravonside originally but I have decided to change that.

Thanks .... Mike.

Thanks for that tip. I assume that "soundex" would do the same?

I have already done:

You searched for: Surname: "BENNY"; Use Soundex: On; Forename: ""; Sex: "Both"; Date From: 01 January 1650; Date To: 31 December 1853; County: LANARK; Parish: "NEW MONKLAND|OLD MONKLAND";

and got a mixture of 49.

and for all counties:

You searched for: Surname: "BENNY"; Use Soundex: On; Forename: "E*"; Sex: "Female"; Date From: 01 January 1759; Date To: 31 December 1763;

and got a mixture of 7 for those 5 critical [likely] years.

I think I am clutching at straws  :-\

In Kirkintilloch Auld Aisle churchyard there are these Morrisons:
====SNIP========

I am just guessing but are you quoting from the typscript booklet "MITCHELL, John Fowler (CIE) & Sheila. Monumental Inscriptions (pre-1855) in Dunbartonshire. (1969). Produced for The Scottish Genealogy Society." [I obtained copies of a couple of pages some years ago].If so, I would like to ask a favour?

On page 97 there is a series of CALDERs - #133 to 139. The last two contain "R D McA (&) J B" which I assume to relate to the McAndrew and Blair families. Christin(a) Blair [#133] is the product of a McAndrew/Blair marriage.

Could you please see if there are any MIs that clearly spell out "McAndrew" as I am trying to find out who "R D" could possibly be and when they lived/died. I am already assuming that "R D McA & J B" were responsible for the erection of markers #138 and 139.

TIA Mike.

Thanks Anne. I don't know why I got hung up on 21 for consent. Ah! Yes - the banns. One problem is that I have failed to find any mention of Elizabeth Benny or banns for her in any other surrounding counties let alone parishes. Looks like it will just have to remain one more of those unsubstiantiated "facts".  :(

I have sent you a private message with the CALDER/PATRICK family. I have not traced the George line. Do you have a death yet? I couldn't find one in Kirkintilloch.

Mike.
