Hi Lily,
I received the certificates from the GRO and they confirmed that the Margaret Hilda Davies pointer you gave me was correct.

Thank you very very much for your help,
Wes

Wes
1911 Gore's Directory shows only 2 households on Goschen St in Old Swan and no Davies so I'm assuming that other houses must have been built after 1910 when the directory would have been compiled.
Only Henry Davies, joiner is on Burdett St.
1938 Kelly's does have Henry Davies , joiner at Clayford Crescent.

If you don't have Margaret Hilda's birth cert how certain are you of the May 1912 birthdate or that she was born in Liverpool? Only Margaret H Davies I can find in the Apr May June q 1912 on the full bmd on Ancestry is Dartford district 2a 1168 with mother's maiden name of Adams. I looked for a Davies/ Adams marriage on Free BMD and found a Henry Davies and Frances Adams marriage in Woolwich-Dec Q 1907 1d 1841.I think Woolwich and Dartford are fairly close. Whether or not someone would say they were from London if they were from these districts, well you'd need someone with a better knowledge of London than me to confirm this This is wild speculation, though.

There are 2 Margaret Davies and one Margaret A Davies in the same quarter in West Derby district
Did Margaret Hilda have siblings? It might be easier to find siblings birth certs to find out the parents names.
Hope I'm not sending you on a wild goose chase
Lily

Lilly,
Thank you so much, you are a real star! I am certain of the D.o.B, Gran had written her D.o.B down from my Niece. The D.o.B was also written in my G.Grandmother's (Paternal side) book of birthdays.

I will take a chance and order the certificates to see if they are the right people.

You mentioned Gore's Directory, where can you get access to them?

Again, many thanks for your help you are a STAR! I will let you know how I get on.

Best wishes and many thanks,
Wes

Pauline,
Thanks for the pointer, I hadn't realised that you could have access to old electoral registers. I guess I got to the local records office and pay them to do the search.

Many thanks,
Wes

Hi,
I noticed that Henry didn't originate from London; I'll also keep looking and see what I find until the 1911 census is published.

Persistence will eventually pay off.

Thanks for your help.

Best wishes,
Wes

Hi,
I have tried the 1901 Census and found:

Henry Davies, born circa 1861 living in 6 Durdett Street, Toxteth Park. His occupation is listed as Joiner & employer.

This Henry is 40 and his wife is 38, my Gran was born 11 years later making this Henry 51 and his wife 49. This makes them a very long shot,  if the ages are accurate.

From my Gran's wedding certificate the witnesses were Ruth Davies & James Davies. At the time of her (1937) marraige she was living at 89 Clayford Crescent which is off Queens Drive in Stoneycroft (near Old Swan).

I'm still working through the Census records for 1901 in the hope of finding them.

Many thanks,

Wes

Hi,
I'm trying to find details of my Great Grandfather; all I know is that he was a Journeyman Joiner. In May 1912 when my Gran Margaret Hilda Davies was born they lived in Goschen Street, Liverpool 13 (This is on the boundary of the Stanley & Old Swan districts).

My Gran went to St Anne's C of E Primary School which is on Prescot Road, Liverpool.

My Gran never talked about her family so the only information I have to go on is the details from the Wedding Certificate. The only thing she used to say was that they came from London.  All I have are some photographs, but these don't have any names on them.

I've tried looking for a birth certificate but have had no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,
Wes

Hi,
Woolton was in West Derby. West Derby included all of the area now called Liverpool. For further information look at the following page on Wikipedia
