:) I spent ages searching for Arle's in Northumberland after talking to old relations....Turns out their Northumbrian accents had turned the real name of EARL into Arle!

All my relations on Dads side had/have Scottish accents, Mothers geat grandparents came from Kent and Hampshire then moved up to Northumberland for work and their descendents are now Geordies, and my OH is an Australian, so a bit of a mixture! ;D

My Dad's Uncle Sam, left behind two little boys who were brought up by their Grandmother. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland. No known grave, but mentioned on a panel in Pozieres memorial in France, and in the Scottish National War Memorial in Edinburgh Castle.

My cousin once removed. My Grandfather (his Uncle) served with him, and promised his sister that he would look after her oldest son. Grandfather was wounded and whilst in hospital, his nephew was killed at the Somme. He blamed himself until the day he died aged 69 in 1954.

Hi Susan, good to hear from you. Charles Coombs was my great great grandad as well. His daughter Mary Jane coombs married Robert Dalrymple, and my grandma was their daughter Anna Bell Dalrymple. All I know of this Charles was that he was born in Andover in Hampshire. I have a photo of the gravestone thank you.

The Lighter Side / Genealogists Nightmare!

 :o
I came across this poem in my late parents papers.

Many, many years ago, when I was twenty three
I got married to a widow, who was pretty as could be.
This widow had a daughter, who had hair of red
My Father fell in love with her, and soon the two were wed.
This made my Dad my Son in Law, and changed my very life,
My daughter was my step mother for she was my Fathers wife!
To complicate the matters worse, although it gave me joy
I soon became the father of a bouncing baby boy.
My little baby then became, a Brother in Law to Dad,
And so became my Uncle, though it made me very sad.
For if he was my Uncle, then that also made him Brother,
To the widows grown up daughter-who of course was my StepMother!
Fathers wife then had a son- who kept them on the run,
And he became my Grandson, for he was my Daughters son!
My wife is now my Mothers mother, and it makes me blue
Because although she is my wife -she is my Grandmother too!
If my Wife is my Grandmother, and I am her Grandchild
Every time I think of it it simply drives me wild!
For now I have become the strangest case you ever saw-
As the Husband of my Grandmother- Ive become my own Grandpa!!

I understand it.. I think!! lol
