Durham / Rebecca Brown
« on: Monday 17 March 14 13:06 GMT (UK)  »
I have been tracking my Family tree for a good few years now but have always arrived at a dead stop at the wife of:
Thomas Brown (b) 1752,  (ch) 14 Jun 1752 (0091083, 0091084) Bishopwearmouth, Durham.
I am trying to believe he may be the father of:
James Brown (b) 30th April 1776 (91114, 91115, 91116) Sunderland, Durham.
This is where the Rebecca is named as the mother.

Can anyone advise or shine a light on this information, I have looked at several other trees on Ancestry and they are all stopped at this point.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: Margaret Williams 1833 - Eglwsilan

Hi Morgan,

Looking at those 2 Margarets and thought their birth dates were I thought too far away.

So I went to 1851 Census and pulled out every Margaret in Glamorgan and came up with 125 names. I checked every one for Born and Living in Eglwsilan and came up with 4 names:

Margaret Jenkins
Margaret Morgan  :o
Margaret Thomas
Margaret Waters

I then checked their full names for marriage to William Williams and haven't been able to link them to Eglwsilan and 1858 +/- 2years.

Still looking.

Alan

Many Thanks Morgan,

I have just used Free BMD and come up with only 2 x names within the dates you suggested.

Margaret Foley & Margaret Preece.

Just to let you know the kickstart and to give you my thanks, I will let you know how I get on.

It's much appreciated, :)

Sorry I forgot to mention that I had tried Free BMD, trouble was that I couldn't reduce the search to Eglwsilan or even Pontypridd and had to search using the whole county of Glamorgan.

William Williams' married to Margaret ? lots of hits none with a recognisable parish.

Was Eglwsilan or Gyfeillon in Pontypridd or Caerphilly or even Glamorgan in 1860, does anyone know how to reduce the hits when I can only guess at the date? :-\

They were together in the 1861 Census with a child less than a year old.

Thanks for considering

Alan

Thanks for that Carole, it may not be the last resort but my only option.

I shall wait a couple of days in case something totally unexpected turns up, like another second great grandchild to the lady ;)

Thank you for your reply it's certainly appreciated.

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Grace Darling tree Parents
« on: Tuesday 22 February 11 21:52 GMT (UK)  »
How odd is all of this :o I have looked for "Letham Hill" on the internet and found lots of links to "Inverkeithing, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, with the alternative name of..."Letham Hill Wood". This is East Scotland, North of Edinburgh, not Ayrshire which is Western Scotland, all news to me mind.

However desperate trawling of the internet I found this site:

http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1319335

Which surprisingly has a location near "Ford" in "Northumberland".

I think you're right "Crisanne" and I have to try another Birth certificate for another child instead of stealing your support. Let me get a Birth Certificate.

Thanks for your inspiring guidance "Crisanne",  Alan

I have been trawling the net tonight and found this record on "Family Search" and wondered what anyone's thoughts are.

If it hadn't been the "Margaret Darling" formerly "Darling" mention on the birth Certificate of "Grace Darling". this would appear to be somewhere near :-\ the marriage I have been looking for. Why would there be a formerly "Darling" mention on the Birth Certificate especially when the gap between Agnes and Grace is only 3 years. Could they have remarried in England after being married in Scotland ???

Name:      William DARLING
Gender:    Male
Birth:       1824
afn:         GD9Q-54
Marriages  1
Spouse:    Margaret KERR
AFN:         GD9Q-4X
Marriage:   1850 Dec 19
                Duns, Berwickshire, Scotland

Child 1:     Agnes DARLING (AFN: GD9Q-69 )
Gender:     Female
Birth:       1852 Dec 15
Berwickshire, Scotland

Thanks in advance I may nearly be there..

Many Thanks for your help here Crisane.

My old brain is a bit overwhelmed, I have looked at the detail so many times, rejoined Ancestry for another short period and haven't been able to point at any with any conviction saying "You are the persons".

What I have found out is, there is a mis-transcription in the 1941 Census that I found previously and you came to the very same person:
Margaret Darting
[Margaret Darling]

Also I should have mentioned the Birth Certificate for Grace stated her father was an Agricultural Labourer.

I  thought and had a hunch that the Glendale: William & Grace were the ones but haven't been able to convince myself that I am sure.

Have you looked on a map Holy Island, Kyloe, Ford, Millfield, Wooler, Chatton, Belford, Bamburgh are all within 12 mile circle of each other.

2 questions:

Sept 1/4 1849 what does that mean?
Marriage of William Darling and Margaret Darling is that what I need to seek?

Thanks for your patient help, it is most appreciated,

Alan
