Hi Maxine,

I don't suppose you have an Edith Edwards in your tree do you?  She would have been born between 1901 and 1924.  I know she was a domestic servant in Gt Ellingham in 1934 but can't find any trace of her before then so not sure if she was born in Gt Ellingham.

Long shot but thought I would ask!

Hi,  Was your Ernest Edgar Postle born in Norfolk?  Do you know if he had any children.  The Edgar Postle in my tree was (I think) born between 1895 and 1905 but not sure where - probably Norfolk.  Could this be your Ernest's son?

Would be interested to hear from you as details on this part of my tree are sketchy at best!

Thanks  :)

Technical Help / Re: Family Tree Builder Report Options
« on: Wednesday 17 September 08 20:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi Patricia,

Thanks for those thoughts.  I hadn't even thought of Genes Reunited as I assumed you had to pay for it... I think I had to pay last time I tried to use it but maybe that was just the search facility.

Excellent idea with the census info putting into notes.  Like you say a lot of work but will be worth it for having useful data visible in any format.  I do still have the original family tree maker program but have lent it to someone at the moment and wasn't sure if it would accept the census data in the FTB format but once I have transferred it all over to notes it probably will.

Thanks again - very useful tips.

Technical Help / Re: Family Tree Builder Report Options
« on: Sunday 14 September 08 01:27 BST (UK)  »
Hello Patricia,

Finally someone who has the same frustrations with Family Tree Builder that I have.  I used to use the Who Do You Think You Are Family Tree program (which came out in conjunction with BBC programme) and the reporting function was excellent - you could customise the report for every detail.  I found it very useful to run off a report for everyone in my tree showing the census information which was useful to highlight any gaps.  However the reporting was the best thing about that software.

So when my PC crashed last year and I lost everything on my hard drive I decided to try another program which would allow me to publish on the web so if I ever lost data on my hard drive again my hard work would be safe on the net.  But like you I am finding that while the program is simple and user friendly the reporting options are very limited.

Did you ever find a solution?  I have tried importing my FTB gedcom into other programs but end up with pages of errors in the transfer process and none of the census info is brought across because it doesn't recognise the format in which FTB has stored it.  Are you still using FTB?

Would be interested to hear from you.

Katherine

Hi Eileen,

I have some Postles in my tree but they are from Gt Yarmouth.  I don't suppose you have any Edgar Postles in your tree?

Does anyone else have any information on Edgar Postle?  I know he married a Charlotte Allison and they had a son (Edgar Ernest Postle) in 1920.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Barford Baptism look-up - Woodrow
« on: Sunday 31 August 08 19:35 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if someone could help.

I am researching William Woodrow (born 1819 Barford) and I know in the 1841 census he was listed as living with his father (a widow) on Norwich Common in Wymondham.  However I cannot find out who his mother was.

Would someone be able to look up the baptism record for WIlliam Woodrow to see if his mother is listed on there?

Thank you.

Thanks Tricia and Maggott for that extremely useful advice.  I have put family tree on back burner for now but when I revisit it I will probably go to Records office myself but useful to know that service is available.

Kind regards and Happy New Year.
