Australia / Re: BRADLEY/McGOWAN family Australia
« on: Tuesday 25 July 17 08:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi to those who have posted on this family who are related and not related. I have sent some of this info to the person who is looking for his Mum via personal message. Here's a bit more for those who want to know more on the family regards Thomas and Elsie McGowan (nee Chape) married Walgett NSW 4th Jan 1946.
Elsie died 26/02/58 during child birth. After Elsie's death during childbirth (child was still born) Thomas hired a nanny to care for his children and despite this, sadly the children were removed by the General Minister from Thomas McGowan on 11th March 1960. The children were separated and never saw their father again.
Elsie's parent's Celia Nina Anne Chape died  1937 and Robert John Chape died 1949.
for those who are tracing the family of the following....James McGowan(Ireland - convict from Longford) and spouse Ellen Crampton (from Edinburgh Scotland) and one of their children
James McGowan and his de facto Eliza Weatherall. Please contact me via personal message and I can fill you in on  some of the BDM as passed on to me(please note I do not have all BDM info) and other info on the above names, such as our convict James from Ireland. However I cannot pass on other info  of living persons who have traced this tree who have posted on this message board.
My connection to this family is on my father's side Christian Edward Egan
My grandmother Mona Egan (nee Bradley)
My gr. grandmother Agnes Bradley (Nee MCGOWAN)
thank you
Emu ;D

Hi there....sorry ladies....I only just saw this message....didn't know it was there until my friend informed me! I have a fair bit on the McGowan family....not sure if I can give you what you are asking in regards the names in your posting (Elaine Joyce McGowan and others mentioned)I have been in contact with a McGowan relative whom I found on Rootschat in 2011. This lady has completed a fair bit of research on the family and lives nearby. We have met up a couple of years ago. I think she could be on holidays at the present time. Another lady did conduct research on behalf of her sister in law. I would have to look back at my notes and see what is mentioned as have not looked at anything in awhile. As mentioned in other postings my Gr Gr Grandfather  James McGowan was born in Longford Ireland and I have been to the place where he lived. I have also recently been to Sydney where he died near Darling Harbour.
cheers Emu :)

Hi! So sorry for all the confusion, but I did not mean to post the message where I had posted it. I was logged on and then lost the message and somehow ended up in the wrong place after i had re-typed it all!
YES, I guess I have put up a few too many messages!!!!!
Whilst I am here....I  am basically looking for My Gr Gr grandfather George Charles Bradley's birth in England. I was given alot of info from others and have had many  who have been looking and not replied again (on various places) It appears George was born May 1832. and his parents were John Bradley (also  a hairdresser/barber) and mother Elizabeth Bradley (nee Nash)
Okay, I know where George married and to whom and where he  set up his Barber shop and where he died - that part is sorted out!
I was curious to know what happened to his parents John and Elizabeth as noted it states George as a 7 yrs old boy when he migrated from England. I am also curious to know if any George had any siblings.
As for the England part.....I was hoping to find where the family lived and also their births and marriage details.
in the mean time I have been sent  a link to Warwickshire, so I shall have look on it when I am free. I also have another lady here in Aust  who is going to help. I will have look on Trove as well.
I have a looked on ancestry. but I am not a paying member, Plus family tree circles, Familysearch.org and signed into various other places for info. In the beginning  I was looking for the wrong man as given to me by someone who was trying to help me.
thanks again, I shall keep looking, with the resources I have been given

Australia / Follow up on BRADLEY family from Birmingham to Australia
« on: Tuesday 05 July 11 06:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi!
Just a follow up with info regarding previous postings on my Bradley family. My Gr Gr grandfather George Charles Bradley born in Birmingham Eng. I have recently obtained a copy of his death certificate stating George spent 23 yrs in Victoria and Sth Aust and 30 yrs in QLD, where he is  worked as a hairdresser (barber) in Roma QLD and is buried there in 1892.
It states George was aged 60 yrs and 3 mths of age at time of death, so this would make him born in May 1832. This also means he migrated with his parents (and maybe siblings????) John Bradley (also a barber) and mother Elizabeth (nee Nash) at age 7 yrs.
This would also mean his parents John and Elizabeth would be buried maybe in Vic or Sth Aussie???? If anyone comes across anything else that may help me - let me know thanks! I just wanted to follow this up for others who may have read my previous postings
thanks!

Hi Jenn,
thanks for the reply. Yes, I can give you the maiden name of Elizabeth Bradley.....it was NASH. John Bradley and Elizabeth would appear to have married in England, but after a search on familysearch.org I could not find the couple - unless I have missed it somewhere. I have been told the Bradley family came out to Australia when George was a 7 year old boy. George claims to be born in Birmingham ENG approx 1834. George married Winifred Hannah EVANS from Wolverhampton. The couple were marred in Roma QLD and George died and buried in Roma.
George was barber in Roma and he states on his marriage to Winifred that his father was also barber.
Family sources tell me that George also lived in other states besides QLD. I was told Vic and maybe Sth Aust (not sure on the Sth Aust) I don't know what ship they arrived on.
Sorry cannot give you much!
Thanks!
Lesley
