Mayo / Re: Ruanes of Ballina, Co. Mayo

To MishL,
Thank you so much for your message. I've not done any serious research on the Ruanes for a while as my Ancestry membership doesn't cover Ireland so I was excited to read your post. We have a few old photographs of the Ruane family but we don't know who is who!
My husband is the descendent via his grandfather Michael Ruane (Later Rowan) and Michael's daughter Mary who lived in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Thankyou.

Yes it is also sad that by the time William came back to London by 1891 Sarah had already died (during or after childbirth in 1868)

I must do another search for the Kerr family where William was lodging in Glasgow in 1871 when he was 18 but as you have said I might not be able to find out more unless I go for DNA testing.

The mystery continues then. Sarah's father's name was William. Perhaps the Siggers family had a visitor from Scotland or perhaps there is no connection at all with them and the father of William John.
Perhaps one day it will be solved!

Hello RyanSiggers and thank-you for your message. This is really very interesting indeed. My grandmother (nee Diaper and granddaughter of James Diaper) told me that the family of Sarah's child William John Levett took him away from her to Scotland. He is listed on the 1871 Scotland census as living in Glasgow (a lodger) and on the 1861 England census he is living with Sarah (nee Levett) Diaper and her daughter Lucy. William  married Charlotte Sharp and then in 1891 appears on the England census living in London with his family. Do you think this is the same family? I do hope so!

Just another thank-you to everyone who helped point me in the right direction in my search for my Godfather. I have now received both his and Mary Wallace's Wills which confirm they are mother and son!

Yes I spotted that. Hawkhurst/Cranbrook is north of Hastings so that would fit. I might well send off for Edward's Will as well but I'll wait to see Mary's first.

Yes that's right and I now have found on Ancestry  a Death notice for an Edward George Wallace in Kent in 2006.
More investigation needed!

I have now ordered the Will for Mary Wallace.
Many thanks to you Rosie99 and everyone for pointing me in the right direction.

The England Registers show Constant Joseph jnr and Edward living in the Deptford area but not for the same years. I've not come across a death notice for Edward yet but will keep searching.

I have now also found via Ancestry and typing in Edward Wallace, my Godfather travelling to Africa in 1952 as he was involved in a Locust survey and this fits in with what I remember my father used to talk about. The jig-saw is coming along!

Well I've drawn a blank on the Gov.Uk Wills online search so I think I will get some fresh air and come back to it another day! Many thanks for your time and efforts Rosei99 and everyone else.
