Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: William Miller b. Jan 1891 somehow misses Census?

A lot of the church records on the Fam Search site seem to be non-conformist ones, well I have found many of my family in them in Northimberland.

Genuki has a list of all the churches in Longbenton (of which the Walker ones seemed to belong): http://www.genuki.bpears.org.uk/NBL/Longbenton/ChurchRecords.html

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: ORDS of Northumberland

Hi Cazzie

Unfortunately there are lots of Ords in Northumberland (and Durham). Mine were from the north near the Scottish borders. They were labourers taken on at the hiring fairs as all the children were born all over the place.

The earliest I have is a Thomas born 1802, and I am descended from one of his sons who ended up in Broomhill.

*Ances* have an Ord forum you could perhaps post on, or if you had anything which said which part of Northumberland your Robert came from then it would help to narrow things down.

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: William Murray Bellingham

Hi Patricia

Is that Jane b.1830?

My interest is through son William b.1828 ->Robert b.1856 ->Josephine b.1892 who married Charles Troughton. Josephine and Charles were the parents of my late step-grandfather George Troughton. His children are my half-aunt & half-uncle if that makes sense!

Robert b.1856 married Sarah Reid. In the 1891 census she is in the poor house in Alnwick, Robert is no where to be seen, and it looks as though Josephine may have been born there. Given that the Murrays may well have been comfortable, it seems as though Sarah must have been disgraced and they didn't want to take her in. Grandad alays said she was a bit of a girl, and was in South Shields as a Widow in 1901 with yet another daughter.

I never really tracked down what happened to Robert.

Northumberland / Re: Ellington and WW1 army camp

There's a page on the Northumberland communities web site for Ellington but the maps don't show any specific site for the batallion:
http://communities.northumberland.gov.uk/Ellington.htm

Also I don't know whether you found this, but if you search for Ellington on this page, there's quite a story about the  Scottish Horse and what they did in WW1:

Have you tried the National Archives? I found a great uncle's sea pouch there for the 2nd world war:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/merchantseamanafter1917.htm?WT.lp=rg-3193

I did have a quick search for you and he's not listed as having a pouch there but the link might give you leads elsewhere.

Sorry, another question...

Where in London was the son in 1898? And was he Born or Christened on the 1846 date?

It's just that there's a 1909 death on freebmd for a Thomas Joseph Wilson aged 69:

Deaths Mar 1909

WILSON  Thomas Joseph  69  Shoreditch  1c 37

According to wikipedia the 99th amalgamated with the 62nd in 1881 and became the Wilshire Regiment (Duke of Edingburgh's).

Before the 2nd Boer war in 1899, there was one section in India and another in Guernsey.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiltshire_Regiment

It says that the depot was in Devizes. That might help with narrowing down census searches.

What was the name of his wife and did they have any other children?  Where did they marry? Have you got the wife on any census records? She may be living close to where the regiment was based. What was the last census that you have his wife in?

Northumberland / Re: Prudhoe Street/Place, Newcastle 1881

I tried looking for William Render in 1881.

It's VERY much a long shot but there's a William 'Pender' (RG11; Piece: 3607; Folio: 104)
Age:    27
Estimated birth year:    abt 1854
Gender:    Male
Where born:    Newcastle On Tyne, Northumberland, England
Civil Parish:    Vessels
County/Island:    Lancashire
Country:    England
Street address:    "S S Arago"
Occupation:    Third Engineer
Registration district:    Liverpool
Sub-registration district:    Howard Street
ED, institution, or vessel:    Nina

This William Pender doesn't appear to exist in 1861, 1871 nor in 1891. Could he have jumped ship which is why the marriage addresses appear to be dodgy? I suppose a third engineer could be a fitter as well.

Unfortunately the image does say Pender.
