Hi
No need for e-bay, you can buy them from www.awardmeals.com by filling in an application form.

You can purchase them fully mounted for wearing, or in a smart presentation case, or even for hanging on the wall!

Your aged hero seems to be ten years ahead of me.  I didn't buy mine until I decided to return for the 60th d-day commemoration ceremonies on Omaha Beach in 2004.

I also got a set of miniatures that I eventually sent, via the Mayor of Vierville sur Mer (Omaha Beach), to the French schoolgirl who also participated in the torch-carrying ceremony with me, and who promised to visit the British Cemetery in Bayeux where my RAF comrades who perished (still unheralded) in support of those American "Private Ryans" on that dreaded beach.

At the American Cemetery ceremony, lead by George Bush and President Chirac, I took the opportunity to speak to Senators, Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as a number of four-star, three, two and one-star Generals, none of whom were aware that any British, let alone RAF, personnel gave their lives that day during the disgraceful fiasco that occurred there!!!

I would guess that you Granddad would, at least, qualify for the 1939/45 Star, probably the Defence Medal, War Medal, and the "Star" for any overseas campaigns he participated in (eg France &  Germany Star, Burma Star, Italy Star, Africa Star), and perhaps the Air Crew Medal, Atlantic or Pacific Star.  Plus about five of the so- called "Commemorative Medals" that this company sells.  Suggest you ask for a catalogue.  Each medal costs around £20 so you might club together for a chestful for his 95th birthday.

Hope this helps,

The Common Room / Belgian marriage, death and census records on line??
« on: Tuesday 12 February 08 23:13 GMT (UK)  »
Can anybody help with searchable sources available on line of census returns, marriage and death records, etc for Belgium around 1948 onwards? I'm trying to trace survivors of a family who were very good to me just after Brussels was liberated in WW2.

Thanks,

Omaha
