Links to  most cemeteries in Australia

and Victoria

Unfortunately the two cemeteries you name do not have online data.  There is a contact for the Kyneton cemetery and an offer of lookups for the St Arnaud Cemetery.

From the National Archives site

Index to passenger arrivals
Search for passengers arriving by ship in Fremantle and other Western Australian ports between January 1921 and 15 January 1950; or arriving at Perth airport between 1944 and 15 January 1950.
**Index compiled through a Work for the Dole project in Perth, Western Australia**

Does the index include those in transit to other ports :-\

Australia / Re: SS Great Britain Passenger Lists
« on: Tuesday 03 February 09 04:58 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone has access to the passenger lists for the SS Great Britain which did about 32 voyages from the UK to  Australia from 1852 to 1875, would you please check for a William Whittaker born about 1833/34 in Lancashire, England and his wife Ann (maiden name Armstead) who was born about 1830/31 in Lancashire.  ...

I'm hoping they may have been one of the many passengers who sailed from Liverpool, England to Melbourne, Australia onboard the SS Great Britain.  Any help would be most appreciated.

Lizzie

Lizzie have you some info such as family stories etc,  that they actually sailed on the SS Great Britain?

Finally my Grandmother's note say Edward was the Tenant of the Rising Sun in Maidstone, and another note says that his Father Edward Lancaster b 1811 was married to Mary Brindley (the note adds she is a relative of James Brindley the Victorian Engineer and Canal Builder).

The names of Edward's parents.

edit  Perhaps this is the Edward T that Ralph was referring to

Edward Thomas LANCASTER with father Edward and Mary Ann CHAMBERS died at Heidelberg in 1929 aged 68 years.  Ref no 9949

Removed the  bold to emphasize the parents names at is seems to have caused offence when none was intended.

There is only one death on the Vic indexes for an Edward LANCASTER in 1875 and there is a marriage in 1863 for an Edward to a Mary GIBLETT.

The census information, as Ralph mentioned, agrees with his ancestors notes.  Mary Ann CHAMBERS is noted on the census as born in Maidstone, Kent, perhaps the reason they returned there and then back to Edward's place of birth by the 1891 census. The chn born in Australia are noted on the various census as such.   A****y 1871 census details their place of birth as United States but scan shows Australia.
