United States of America / Re: Laws family person lost for years
« on: Friday 17 March 17 14:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. We are seeking further help from Rootsweb on our LAWES/LAWS family from Andover area in Hampshire. We have had vauable help regarding Jacob Laws and his family who emigrated from Andover to Mitchegan but now need help in looking for his brother LLOYD LAWS. hE WAS BAPTISED IN mARCH 1819 . His parents were John and Hannah Laws nee Witts. Lloyd was on 1841 census with parents and sister Emma in Hampshire. He then disapppears for over 40 years until he appears on Andover 1891 census in Hampshire with an Elizabeth Stockwell and also Sarah and Harry Stockwell. This is in New Street Andover where coincidentally Jacob and Lucy Laws lived on 1851 census  before emigrating. We have looked all over for Lloyd in these lost years and wondered if he too emigrated. All help appreciated as before. On 1891 census he was down as a widower so therefore he married at some time but where. We could not find a marriage.  Thanks in advance.

Further to my Laws enquiry. I have put that Bond family aside for now as I am unsure its correct. I have looked through all US grave records and not found Jacob Laws anywhere.  I did find George Laws 1910 census details on Familysearch. He is married to Elizabeth who was born Mitchegan. I thiunk her maiden name was Otis as this shows up on there. The children were Frank H Laws born 1892. Rose Laws b 1893, Sadie Laws b1899  another married daughter Mary and son in law Harry G Buck.  Any info with regard to these children would be great to find.   George dies in 1911 as his gravestone shows.
All help is much appreciated. Thankyou.

Hello Sandra. I  now think I may have the wrong Bond family as I found a marriage between  an Annie E Scouls aged only 15 and John W Bond. Her father is down as Scouls. The marriage was on Familysearch. So I will have to rethink what the connection was. Whoever gave info for the Elizabeth Bond death cert must have had info that Jacob Laws was her father. Gets complicated doesnt it. You think you have it and then its blown apart.  I shall carry on searching.  Thanks anyway for your help. I will have a look at the George Laws who was son of Jacob for his descendants. >:(

I thought it had" wife of J Laws " written on gravestone.   I have searched online on a few Mitchegan cemetery sites without success.   Its dinnertime here in England so better get a meal ready for my hubby. Hope to chat again.

THANKYOU so very much Sandra. It would have taken me ages to find all this. the surname of Elizabth Bond is a bit worrying but she may have been married before. I found her death info which states her father was Jacob Laws.   The only missing death is for JACOB LAWS. It shows up on Ancestry in Mitchegan deaths but I dont have access to site.

United States of America / Laws and Bond Family Mitchegan. USA

I have just found out that an ancestor connected to our Laws family from Hampshire England, emigrated to United States. I have not found out when but they are on 1870 and 1880 census in Eagle Harbour Mitchegan. They are Jacob and Lucy Laws (Lawes) with children Henry and George. They also had a daughter Elizabeth. We believe she married a John Bond and was on 1880 census with daughter Blanche. The place they lived was called Olive, in Mitchegan state. . Both Elizabeth and John were born in England.      I have already found the death of Lucy and her son Henry.  Any information or help appreciated.

thank you for the reply.    Charlotte was indeed married to Andrew Antonio but he died in 1903 in hospital and she was not the informant to his death.
. Somewhere on the Newspapers archive there is a report stating that Charlotte was attacked by a man and she broke hger leg. It may have been because her husband was of West Indian birth. I cannot find my copy of this report at the moment. I believe Charlotte may have lied about her age and made herself younger. I have her dob as 1858 era in Ely Cambs. Thats where all her family came from. I too saw the comment of no family which was not true. Her brother my grandad lived in Poplar London but I do not know if he knew where she was. I have not found her death yet but maybe she was incorrectly listed.  I was hoping that there are records of Ladywell lodge to see where she went after October 1909.

I am unsure if this is the correct place to post my query as I have not posted for some time. I am researching what happened to my grandfathers sister Charlotte Lee from Ely who became Charlotte Antonio. I found her on the ST Olave
workhouse records in London in October 1909. It states her birth year as 1961 which is not quite right. The records state she was moved to Ladywell which I believe was a hospital connected to workhouse. I have not been able to find her death yet and would like some guidance to find out where she was buried and when. Thank you.
