Hi all clever technical and knowledgable people :D

This is a photo of my Great Grandfather William Satchwell, I have no idea when it was taken  but it looks like it was taken outside. He was an 'Ag Lab' I know that much from the census - but he doesn't look a barrel of laughs does he? :)

He was born in 1857, but apart from this photo and possibly one other I know very little about him.

Any insight much appreciated.

Only just had a chance to get back onto Roots Chat and say thank you to you all for replying.

I can now go further in my research, although it would have been lovely to have a photo of him via the Northampton Independent - but it's fab to know that other newspapers may have some info on other relatives who departed my shared gene pool far too early.

Thank you.

Thank you for your replies, I shall keep researching, it would be lovely to think I had traveller/romany genes somewhere, it would help me deal with the increasing need to go and dig the garden (far too many Ag Labs......)

Hi

He was in the 193rd Siege Battalion, Royal Artillery.

His home was in East Haddon, and although I've got copies of his papers from the National Archives they just have a note awarded MM?!

The surname was Knibbs, and his address on the marriage certificate was the 'Greyhound Inn'.

It has made such a delightful change from seeing the ever present 'Ag Lab'!

Hi

A relative J E Baskott, reg no. 43393 was awarded the Military Medal in 1917, he was a NCO, I have his medal card, but it only tells me he was awarded this medal - I cannot find why? Can you point me in the direction of a good source?

Hello

Please forgive my asking but I had on a marriage certificate the occupation of 'Hawker' appear - I am not sure what this occupation is - the marr cert is 1838.

Can anybody help me?
