The Common Room / Re: The Factory & Workshop Act 1901

Hi, so if the same document I have and states it intent was to put the daughter into an orphanage, would it have been for that reason or I did read something about the Orphan's and widow's pension.  The mother was a widow (husband died 2 years prior), and she was working and had two children to look after  :-\

Thanks

Hi, I have stumbled upon this old chat and are interested as I am looking into the Flitter family and believe the line  I am chasing is John, son of William and Hannah Liddiard.

Many Thanks for any information.

Hi Ardeninan,

Hello - Sorry I changed my email address last year and had totally forgotten to update rootschat.  Thanks so much to the administrator Trystan who tracked me down via FB  ;D

Yes I am over the moon - we don't know too much about the Flitter side of the family so would love to share information.

Ireland / Re: Trying to Find Hoey relations from Ireland

Hi,

I'm on a wild goose chase and this has lead me to this post. I was just wondering I have a marriage certificate of a thomas harold & margaret durcan in Armagh on 3/1/1818 - the witness's are john durcan and Hoey? Jas.

Just wondering if this James Hoey you are all referring to was maybe a family friend, or just somebody as a witness?

Thanks

Hi KateW,

It's funny, my aunty rang me last week to say she has just ordered the book. So I will no doubt be reading it when she has finished.

Yes I'd like to get to know what life was like. Our relative was a bit naughty and had been caught stealing a number of times. I would like to get more of an idea of what exactly life was like I suppose that's the only way you can try to understand why they did what they did.

My aunty is going to the UK this year, so I'm hoping she would be able to squeeze in a visit to the area.

Thanks

Hi Aghadowey,

Thanks for posting those, it was actually quite interesting to go back and see the different things I've been chasing over the years.

Anyway I recently found a lot more information has been put online in the various area's of family tree research and was really hoping that another area that has increased in information was Philadelphia records.

This family is so frustrating!!

Thanks
Nedda

United States of America / Philadelphia Information
« on: Saturday 28 January 12 07:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Just wondering if someone can advise me a few things:

I am trying to somehow confirm the birth of a John Kilchrist, believed born Philadelphia, (noted on a census he is a british subject) about 1766.

Only reason we can think he is born in Philadelphia, and returns back to England is because his father was in the British Army.

So I know that this timeframe is before any official records for births, but is there ANY way of trying to find this information.

I was watching a show on SBS last night which was talking about the War and how in 1881 the British Army retreated. So I was wondering if there would be any records about how they would have retreated families back to England.

Thanks for any help

Thanks for the replies.

I might have to see if my local LDS centre can get the records in for me :)

Thanks Rosie,

But bugger to the gone missing part!

Someone has found a marriage for that timeframe and state it's 31/3/1666 - so would love to know where it was found it wasn't in the Pallot's Marriage index.
