Completed Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Re: STARMERS in Bugbrooke 1640-1710
« on: Thursday 10 October 13 23:15 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for coming back to me so quickly, and for explaining the last two burials.  Thanks also for the link: I see that the Northants FHS Baptisms CD covers most of the period I want, so I shall give that some thought.

It's brilliant to have access to the advice of experienced researchers - doesn't matter which county: someone will come up with the goods!  Thanks again,

Best Regards

Completed Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / STARMERS in Bugbrooke 1640-1710
« on: Wednesday 09 October 13 13:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I'm hoping someone knows something about Bugbrooke.  I've just found that my ancestor Jeffrey STARMER, Citizen and Bowyer of London, (lived in Wapping, died 1735), had 'kinsmen' in Bugbrooke, Northants.  Not too surprising: Starmer does seem to be a Northants name, originally, but Northants is a new county for me, research-wise.

Bugbrooke PRs are on FreeREG from 1710, so I've got some info from there, and there are 9 STARMER/STARMAR burials 1658-1702 inclusive (listed below), but I've not found an on-line source for 17th C baptisms or marriages.  Can anybody advise me if there is one?

Alternatively, does anyone have access to Bugbrooke PRs and could check for STARMER entries c1640-1710?  Just double-checking the burials for extra info, eg. 'infant', 'wife of John', would be a great help to me.  They are as follows:
23 Oct 1658 Jane
27 Oct 1659 Jane
3 April 1665 Jeffery
10 Aug 1674 Isabell
27 Jan 1675 William
31 Oct 1681 Frances
16 Jan 1682 John
19 Feb 1702 John
29 Mar 1702 John

I'd be grateful for any advice or info, thanks!

Best Regards

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Queenborough, Kent, Marriage in 1812
« on: Monday 10 June 13 15:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi Jo and Tony

Thanks very much for finding me an answer.  I do think it helps to know what else is on the page.  It sounds as if the Smith couple were brought along to witness one marriage, then got roped in to witness all three.  I'd been rather hoping Peter Blume would be of HMS something, so it's interesting to know that if he had been it would have said so.

My Elizabeth was born about 1782, so could easily have been a widow by the age of 30.  I first pick her up in 1816 in Chatham as a widow Elizabeth Bloom, marrying a recently-discharged soldier.  If she had a taste for men in uniformed and high-risk occupations, she could easily have been widowed several times.

Her son William Bloom called his first son John Peter, so you can see why Peter Blume caught my attention.  I shall file your responses and ponder them.

Thanks again!

Kent Lookup Requests / **COMPLETED** Queenborough, Kent, Marriage in 1812
« on: Saturday 08 June 13 13:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I'm wondering if anyone has access to parish marriage registers for Queenborough in 1812, cos I've just noticed an index entry that may be what I'm looking for.

10 August 1812 (some sources give 19th): Peter BLUME and Elizabeth LEWIS

Any extra details could be helpful: residence/marital status of the parties, names of witnesses.  Any suggestion that the witnesses were the verger and the Parish Clerk, rather than friends or relatives of the couple (how many other marriages on the same page did they also witness?).  Any info at all would be gratefully received.

Thanks very much!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!  This info helps very much.  There are so many possibilities, that eliminating one is a very positive step.

I shall now ponder on some of the remaining ones!

Thanks again!

Completed Huntingdonshire Look ups / Hunts Marriages - HARDY - Completed Thank You
« on: Wednesday 10 April 13 23:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Still clutching at straws regarding William HARDY.  He married someone called Ann (at least, I hope he married her!).  They settled in Cambridge St Andrew the Great from 1783, but they would have been old enough to marry from about 1775, so they may have 2-3 earlier children somewhere else.  Naturally, there's no marriage for them in Cambridge.

Can anyone tell me if there's a marriage for a William HARDY to Ann in Huntingdonshire, say 1775-1782?

Thanks very much.

Hi David

Thanks for that!  It's good to be able to confirm that the marriage took place in St Ives - there was always the chance that yet a third parish was involved.  I'm happy with the bride and groom being bachelor and spinster - that's what I expected.  The pieces are falling into place very nicely just at the moment.

Thanks again :)

Thanks, Victor, that's a real step forward!

I've encountered other examples where a mother and new-born infant were buried on the same day.  There probably is no baptism for William, but we get the picture.

This is all good!

Hi All

I'm trying to follow a family named HARDY, who moved from Cambridge St Mary the Great to Cambridge St Andrew the Great, probably via a detour to St Ives, Hunts.  I'm hoping someone has access to the parish records of All Saints, St Ives, and can fill up some blanks for me.

Banns were read in St Mary the Great, Cambridge on 6 March 1774 for Henry HARDY of the parish to marry Ann OSBORN of St Ives (probably the one in Hunts).  Did this marriage take place in St Ives (it didn't happen in Cambridge)?  And can anyone give me details eg marital status of the parties, names of witnesses?

Do any baptisms in St Ives follow on from this marriage?

Henry HARDY remarried in Cambridge on 16 March 1778, his new wife being named Susannah, but there are no baptisms for the couple in Cambridge until 1785.  Did Henry take Susannah back to St Ives and have children with her there 1778-1784?

Lastly, I've found a burial index listing for a William HARDY in St Ives on 3 March 1777 with no age given.  Is any further information to hand about this burial, eg does it say William, son of Henry Hardy?  Are there other HARDY burials during the period 1774-1785 which I may have missed?

I hope this isn't too much to ask, all at once?  I'd be grateful for any information at all.

Thanks very much.

Best Regards

Ros
