Hi

Thanks for your interest.
I still have not found any more detail regarding his death, but I did find his gravestone in Glenluce churchyard.  If I come up with anything, I'll let you know.

Cumberland / Re: Where is/was Cow Rigg, Castle Sowerby?
« on: Tuesday 19 July 11 08:24 BST (UK)  »
The pub at Cow Rigg was called (I think) the Travellers Rest and is now a private dwelling.  I think at one point the building was owned by Lime House estates (private school near Dalston) and they sold it 10-15 years ago.  I know this because we got the details from the estate agents at the time.

There is a planning app for Travellers Lodge, which I thnk is the same place http://eforms.eden.gov.uk/fastweb/detail.asp?AltRef=07/0616  and you can click and view on a map.

Hope this is helpful  (and if any of the details are incorrect, I apologise - it is a long time since the pub closed and I haven't driven round those roads for years)

Europe / Re: Portugal: Tracing Portuguese family history - where do I start?

Thanks so much for that, it all looks incredibly useful and will  hopefully give us a good start.  My friend,s daughter is really enthusiastic about this project - think we might just have created an 11 year old convert to this hobby/obsession/passion of ours  ;D

Europe / Portugal: Tracing Portuguese family history - where do I start?
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 09:01 GMT (UK)  »
I am helping my friend and her daughter start out on their family tree and would like to know where to start when it comes to Portuguese records.  Is there any online information?  I really have no idea where to start, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

If it is indeed Lennel Bank, then you can see a photo here

Ross & Cromarty / Re: Dingwall burials

Hi Francisco

Thanks for taking the time to look for me, I greatly appreciate the effort.

Unfortunately, William Cockburn is no relation to my Henry (as far as I know, and I have this side of my family fairly well documented, thanks to SP).

I suppose it is also a possibility that he was cremated, and there probably wouldn't be a headstone in that case.

Thanks again for your time

Ross & Cromarty / Dingwall burials
« on: Tuesday 07 July 09 12:11 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the burial place of Henry Cockburn who died 16.10.1959.   At the time of his death, he was living in Dingwall and I guess he was probably buried there.

Could anyone out there help me with this one?  I'd be very grateful for any help

Cumberland Completed Lookups / Re: Look up for Wreay
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 16:48 BST (UK)  »
Sorry for the slight delay in replying - thankyou ever so much for that lookup.

George was the brother of my 3xgt grandfather and your info has confirmed what I found on the IGI - I had hoped that perhaps his mother's maiden name was mentioned, but knew it was a long shot when I asked.  May have to dig deep and buy a certificate for one of the younger children.
It also seems to show that there were no other significant family events while they were living at Wreay, which means they weren't in the village for long.

Again, thankyou very much for taking the time to look for me, I'm very grateful

Hi Silvercloud

Would you be so kind to have a look for any Ruddick baptisms or burials at Wreay during the 1830s.

From IGI, I have one baptism for George Ruddick on 07.02.1836 - I'd br grateful to know if there is anymore information regarding his parents in the entry.

I hope you can help - I live in Spain and access to records is restricted to my infrequent trips to the UK

Many thanks

claire
