I now have the answer to my query as to the Mary Jane Park, baptised Kirkby Lonsdale 1831.  She was the daughter of Thomas (excise officer) and Elizabeth.

Annette - I have seen the listing for the docs on Thomas PARK at TNA but they have not been scanned and it is about 8-9 pound to locate plus scanning/printing costs on top.  I am in Australia so cannot view them.  I may have to order them in the future if only to finalise where Thomas was stationed.

My main interest is in Elizabeth, his wife.

Hi Annette,
I came to the exact conclusion you have about this family.  Charles Crawford Clarkson PARK was buried in Bathgate SCT in 1838 (where the family was in 1841).  The Thomas PARK buried 1866 Bristol Holy Trinity was 'formerly supervisor of Inland Revenue' (from newspapers). Both he and son Thomas (b1829 Gateshead) were foreman at the same Gas Works in Bristol in 1861.  The family appeared to relocate to Bristol circa 1856.
There are a few trees on Ancestry that pick up one or two of the children (mostly with different mothers) but no-one has connected the children -  though, Ancestry 'Trees' are not known for their accuracy-) There could well be other children born that have not shown up as of yet and not being able to find Ann PARK (b1839 Lanarkshire, SCT) hasn't helped.  (She may have been a 'niece' . . . .
or born elsewhere).  Unfortunately, all is circumstantial at present which is why I hope someone can at least check out the two Kirkby Lonsdale baptisms for me.
Adding to this, there is a burial for an Elizabeth PARK in 1861, Bristol Holy Trinity (two months before the 1861 census!) and the age fits with my Elizabeth MAUGHAM born 1806, Northumberland.
A really messy family and not having images for Bristol has not helped, either.
Thanks again,
Linda

Hi Colin,
Yes - another marriage of Thomas PARK to Elizabeth MAUGHAM in 1827 Whickham, Durham which is the couple I have been tracking.  Elizabeth's father and grandfather were also 'officers of excise' which makes me think I have the correct couple, but moving counties makes everything so much more difficult.  I believe the Elizabeth Ellison PARK (b Lancaster) was theirs plus a son Charles born in Liverpool, also.
It is the two Kirkby Lonsdale baptisms I would like to sort out.  I think Mary Jane PARK bap 10 April 1831 belongs to this couple but not so sure about Rowland Thomas PARK bap 5 April 1834.
Thanks,
Linda

Thanks for all the replies.
Colin - yes, he did die in Bootle (Rowland T PARK) so your burial date was 2 days after his death (thank you).  I have looked on Scotland's People but the one child that I know of from the census who was supposedly born in Scotland was not.  Either born elsewhere or a relative (1841).  It is the maiden name I am trying to confirm.
Rosie and Annette - yes he is by himself in 1841 and I am a bit 'iffy' about him but he did have the same parents at the correct time - hence my original post.  I would like to rule him in or out but only a full transcript of the baptism would do this.
Thanks again, Linda

Thomas PARK was an excise officer who moved around England, then Scotland and Northern Ireland.  I am trying to track down his children and have two possibilities at Kirkby Lonsdale:

Mary Jane PARK bap 10 April 1831 Kirkby Lonsdale - Thomas and Elizabeth
Rowland Thomas PARK bap 5 April 1834 Kirkby Lonsdale - Thomas and Elizabeth

I know (from newspapers) Thomas PARK was there still there late 1834 but not sure if both  the above children were his or whether another 'Thomas and Elizabeth' were having children at the same time.

Would someone be able to do these lookups for me?

Many thanks
Linda

Thank you Garen . . !

>If he joined for 12 years short service (which came in in 1870), then that would have been 1871, the year of the census. If William was with the 2/14th Foot (PWO West Yorks.) from enlistment, then they were in England at that time - in Sheffield (he'd have been young, but if a drummer - possible).

There was a William Barber, aged 14, born London MDX on the 1871 census, Nether Hallam, Sheffield, at the Sheffield Barracks as a 'soldier' which may well be him.

>Have a look on Find My Past to see if there is a service record (WO97) for 2494 William Barber. I did see there is a WO121 discharge paper, which doesn't contain a lot of information, but gives a discharge date of Feb 1883.

This discharge date also fits as William married in 1884 in Bekshire (for the first time) and the second, in 1917 Surrey.  Still awaiting the first marriage cert but from the indexes, his father was also 'William.'
I have looked at some military records on Findmypast but will check again.  None so far had the correct service number. . . . .

William is not with his wife and only daughter in 1891 so only have him for sure in 1901 and 1911.
If in India  in 1881, that rules out that census.  Going backward has been the problem as it's a common name, with losts of options but this soldier in 1871 in Sheffield looks very good . . .!

Many thanks,
Linda

Helping a neighbour with a chap who has been very hard to find infomation on.
William BARBER (born either 1855 Whitechapel MDX or 1857 GLOUCESTERSHIRE Not Known)
received the Afghan medal as per the following newspaper article in 1933 . . . . . . Mr. W. Barber who was 77 spent a considerable part of his life in the army and served full time as a drummer to the Prince of Wales own West Yorkshire regiment.  He was one of the few holders of the Afghan medal . . .  . .
From Ancestry's UK Military Campaign Medal and Award Rolls 1793-1949 I believe the following is him . . .2nd Battallion, 14th Regiment of Foot, PWO Yorkshire Regiment No 2/14 2494, William Barber, Drummer.  I have been unable to find out anything further on William and hope someone could suggest a place to look . . ?

Thanks, Linda

Hi Kathy,

Not sure whether you are still researching the same Chaytor family, who were at Bigges Main, Little Benton in 1871 . .?
The family were in Westoe, South Shields in 1861 and in Trimdon in 1851.  Mary Chaytor ( b 1860 South shields ) is my Great, Grandmother.

Cheers
