Found the family in 1871 (on FindMyPast) surname transcribed as Lassen but on original clearly Laken:

William 43   Labourer
Hannah 43
John 21
Jane 19
William 10

Unfortunately they and large number of others all simply 'dittoed' as born Limehouse!

However, found a few trees on Ancestry but none had a daughter Jane Laken but found a birth entry in 1852 and checked this on GRO index and mmn was Harris (William Laken's first wife was Jane Harris).   Unfortunately, can't find the family on 1861 census.

William and Hannah had a son William Henry birth Dec.1860 Stepney (mmn Stuttle) - when John Laken married a witness was W H Laken.

I would say that the Hannah Laken widow on 1881/1891 census born in Colchester is Hannah nee Stuttle possibly born a little earlier than she admitted to when she married William Laken.

Annette

Great find, thanks

Thanks all, will go investigate some of the options you have given me.

The Henry that died in 1847 was 67 so born c1780.  He should be somewhere in 1841 for us to check his occupation.

I have seen this, and he was a carpenter, but others who are researching stuttle seem to have his wife as Lydia where there is no sign of a Hannah. Seems to be alot of Stuttles who are carpenters!

In 1865 there's a marriage for William Stuttle father Henry a carpenter.
And a marriage for John Stuttle same fathers details in 1852.

Will check these out as I did check one for a John Stuttle from1841 with mother as Ann but showed John as parent

This might be a possible and father has died

1851

Ann Stuttles widow 57 upholsteress
Hannah 22 daughter same occupation

Both born Colchester - does birthplace fit with Hannah after marriage?

Unfortunately husband William died in Poplar in 1878 and did not find any census after marriage to show where her birthplace was.  I did look into this one but the address Malden Road on 1841 shows the family and when I checked one of her siblings marriages, it stated John as the parent!

Would be grateful for any help with a brick wall I've got!

Hannah Stuttle married William Laken in the Parish of St James, Ratcliff, London in 1859.
She is shown as a spinster age 30 living at Spring Gardens and her father is shown as Henry Stuttle, occupation Carpenter.

I have seen other posts regarding Stuttles who are carpenters but cannot locate a daughter Hannah Stuttle born circa 1829, father Henry. I cannot find her on any census prior to marriage or a birth certificate either.

Any help would be most appreciated re any information of her Stuttle family.

Hi cannot locate any Dolan with christian name of Hipparchus (Greek origin) but you could look at www.irishgenealogy.ie Civil Records for James Dolans birth reg.  There are 42 entries between 1864/1867 in various locations in Ireland.  Good luck

Thanks wil take a look

Unfortunately, civil registration of births only started in 1864 so if James Dolan was born before that date there will be no birth registration although certainly worth checking the site ballydw posted to be sure.

Did James Dolan live in England until at least 1939? if so, worth checking 1939 register for an exact date of birth. If he died earlier but was there in 1911 census there's a chance a more exact place of birth than 'Ireland' would be listed. (We aren't allowed to do look-ups for either of those resources).

No unfortunately he died before, but thanks

Hello,

Does James marry again to Kate Caroline Meakins? If so, is his father' name the same?

Heywood

Yes he did, but unfortunately no marriage certificate online like his first wife. Looks like will have to order a copy. Hi thanks
