Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: Photograph Dating - HEWLETT
« on: Tuesday 14 March 23 16:31 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks for your replies. Mr. HEWLETT does look late 50's early 60's, so if it is an earlier type of photo it is looking like the father. His wife was 2 years younger.

The photo attached is of John HEWLETT and wife (name not given) from Gloucestershire, England.
I have father and son both named John, father born in 1792 and son born in 1818.
Can someone please give an idea of the date the photo was taken, so I am able to link it to the correct John?

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: William Came Baptism 1811/12 Look Up
« on: Sunday 20 September 20 14:30 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for the replies.

I got the father's name from his second marriage in 1854 and he is also living with his father on the 1861 census.

His father James CAME also married a second time. Now I know the mother's name and why her maiden name WINSOR has been given to a lot of descendants middle names, as I guess she must have died young.

Can someone help me find info on her death please?

Hi. I'm trying to find William CAME's baptism to find out his mother's name. He was baptised around 1811/12 in Newton Abbott, Devon and his father's name is James CAME.

Any help is much appreciated.

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Dedham Baptism record of Emma GINN

Wow! What can I say.....Thank you all for all your time and research.

After requesting a look-up for Emma GINN's baptism (which is still a mystery!), I have ended up with so much more information surrounding Edward GINN, who is not Emma's father, but is linked somehow through the widowed mother Ann.

Emma, I guess, can only be adopted or a GINN relation.

I think I need a little time this evening to piece together all the information provided. Thanks again.

I don't think "toll-bar" means a pub, just a barrier to free flow of traffic = gate where a payment to be made. "Bars" in York are gates in the city walls.

LizzieL... His burial states he was a publican and Emma's marriage also states publican. The paper notice and the baps of his other children state toll gate keeper.

Doesn't help much, but found a death notice:

"On the 14th inst. died, Mr. Ginn, keeper of the toll-bar at Dedham."

Ipswich Journal, Saturday,  May 29, 1830

Thanks Maddys52... It does help as it confirms that he was both a toll gate keeper and a publican. Edward was buried on 20th May 1830.
