Devon Lookup Requests / Re: 1861/71 census look up please
« on: Sunday 08 March 20 08:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Barbara,I am a long way from my family history, but as I remember it,there were either two Coaker  brothers or cousins, who went from Devon to the North East I think they both married up there but only one stayed the other came back to Devon, with regard Alfred born 1867 find it hard to believe he got married at 5 years of age  :o I think one of them married at Normanton,,I do not believe I ever found the connection to Beesands,do you have the Mary Ann Jessop marriage cert does it say Alfred was born Beesands? just a thought but Coaker is a Devon name it is possible that a non local clergy, put down Coaker instead of Crocker because it sounded like it,and in that era many people could not read, still it has awakened this line again,I will try to get to my old computer and see what I have.
Best Regards Brian Coaker

Thank you both for your help it is amazing but history repeats itself,Federick Peter Coaker died in 1942 his son was born in 1940 and of course never knew his father, and Frederick never knew his father who was killed when he was 3 in the Battle of Jutland in 1916.

World War Two / Help needed with 79 squadron the most famous Dambusters

Hi all
I thought my search for a distant relative who died in WW2 would be fairly easy, but I should have known it would not be,I would have thought given this squadron was the most famous that it would have been researched to death, but here I am asking for help,Frederick P Coaker born 1913 RAF Volunteer Reserve 79 Squadron number 1383996 DIED 2/9/1942 Buried Lemvig Cemetery Denmark grave 728, he was a air gunner ,now he would have been flying Lancasters because they had them from early 1942 and he would have flown from Woodall Spa airfield, all this I have gleaned from the net,but no mention of what aircraft was lost, what mission it was on,I even used the Lemvig Cemetery records to find his fellow crew mates,  there were 38 RAF men buried in it around the time he was buried and you know what he is the only one from 79 squadron,so what did happen, can anybody help,or point me the way

Well thank you DOB7 for the marriage,I am sure you are aware that Devon is the least represented on the IGI,and Silverton is not in the IGI,you are also right that Silverton has a OPC I used to be one years ago ,but my windows 7 laptop is missing WLDCore.dll which stops me clicking on his name and sending a request by email, and so my posting.

Devon / Re: Visiting Devon Heritage Centre

Hi well I see the Devons Records are still not the most user friendly, they were not when they were in the middle of Exeter and even now they have moved  outside to Sowton, they have not changed much,so you want to look at a original record,I suspect in common with most records offices they will want you to have a Carn Ticket ,this should once you have it allow you to use it at any centre around the country but of course that was too simple for some centres and they are now not allowing a Carn from a different county to be used, anyway that should not effect you as you would seem to be unable to get one, given the rules, your Auzzie passport is no good unless you have a UK address, complicated isn't it,I would suggest you take a UK resident with you who has a driving license and a utility bill or two with them ,they can order the record and you can get a copy of it ,I suspect it will only be one or two sheets long, the only thing that has changed for the good is the old record centre in Exeter used to charge you to use it,the only one I ever found that did this but they new centre has stopped this :D
