Scotland Resources / deceased online - more cemeteries
« on: Monday 18 April 11 17:12 BST (UK)  »
Deceased Online obtains statutory records from local authorities directly which means uniquely they have complete data-sets with all the transcribed register information as well as all the register scans and details of grave occupants.  This isn't competition to family history societies, it's largely different data; it complements the data and records that FHSs painstainkingly research.  We work in close cooperation with many family history societies and we've received overwhelming support from users of the website.

Just to let you know that we will very shortly be placing the burial records for at least 10 of Aberdeen City's cemeteries on www.deceasedonline.com.  Some of these will go live at the end of May 2010 and the rest will be on the Deceased Online webset database over the following two months.  In all, this will be just under 200,000 burials and will include the Spital Churchyard and St Peter's Cemetery in Aberdeen.  The records are from Aberdeen City Archives who have opted to place them on www.deceasedonline.com.  You can register on the website for no charge and search free to see if the person/people you're looking for have records on the site.  It's only if and when you find records (contents of a lair, burial registers, computerised burial entries) that you pay for access at the charges indicated.  If and when you do register, make sure you opt to receive our emails as we only send them out to registered to users when new data goes on the website.

Devon / Re: Shadycombe Cemetery - Salcombe
« on: Monday 17 May 10 12:19 BST (UK)  »
Chris

Just to let you know that we're about to put the records for Shadycombe Cemetery, Salcombe on our website, www.deceasedonline.com.  We're in the process of uploading the records for Salcombe Council which includes approximately 3,000 for Shadycombe and 1,000 for Bonfire Hill.  From what we can tell, the earliest records we have for Shadycombe are from 1879.  We should have all the records online within the next 4 weeks or so, that is by mid to end of June.  If you want to (and if you haven't done so already) you can register on Deceased Online at no cost.  If you do, then when we add new data we send emails to registered users (and ONLY when we're adding new data); make sure that you DON'T tick the box which gives you the option not to receive emails otherwise you won't know when Shadycombe will go live online.  Hope this helps.

Shame you won't be there.  Do make sure you're registered on the website and that you've left blank the tick in the box where we ask you about sending emails.  The only emails we're sending are when new data arrives (our lists aren't sold to ANY 3rd parties) and I know one email will be sent next week about a lot of new data coming online.  HOpe this helps and good hunting.

I do know....but I can't tell yet!  The data comes from local councils and we enter into contracts with them that include confidentiality and embargos.  We're expecting the next area to go online within the next month or two.  If you're attending the Who Do You THink You Are Live exhibition at London Olympia on 26-28 Feb, we have a stand there (813) and I would be happy to tell you more face-to-face.  Regards.

Archivos, as I mentioned in my response the records are for the ANGUS region which is on the east coast of Scotland just north of Dundee and includes many historical areas.  The local family history society there is Tay Roots/Tay Valley FHS.  Their secretary is, I believe, John Irvine and I'm sure he could give you an objective appraisal of Deceased Online and the nature of the records.  His email address is (*).  Please mention my name to him.  Regards, Richard.

Hi there, my name is Richard Gray from Deceased Online so I'm answering your question from our point of view.  Firstly, you should understand that it is FREE to register and to search for data on www.deceasedonline.com.  We are continually adding data to the website; recently we added all records for the Angus area of Scotland and we will shortly be adding more Scottish records as well as burial and cremation records from Councils around the UK as well as many more from the Greater London area.  When you do register, you should agree to accept our emails as when new areas and data are added, we email the registered users so that they know immediately.  I would stress that we do NOT pass on email addresses to any other third parties.  Deceased Online was recently rated by Who Do You Think You Are magazine as No 4 website in the Top 25 websites to watch in 2010; not bad considering we've only been actively marketing ourselves for a year.  We have been very well received by areas where we are active such as Tunbridge Wells, various London areas and in Angus.  Please feel free to contact the family history societies in these areas to hear their views.

Kent / Re: New aid to help find relatives' graves in Kent cemeteries
« on: Monday 14 July 08 16:47 BST (UK)  »
Just to let you know, I handle the marketing for the newly launched database website www.deceasedonline which went live last Friday.  Although it launched with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council on 11th July, there are many other local authorities who have already committed to sign up to the site and right now we have around 20 that have either signed contracts or have given verbal confirmation.  We'll be working as quickly as possible to upload the data but initially we have to photograph and log all the data from large registers.  If you check on the website regularly, you'll see updates highlighted on the home page.  We'll be making announcements very soon.
