Hi

You're probably right about the mistranscription. Hopefully someone will come on who has access to those records.

Have you got census information for Robert?

Regards

Kirstie

Have you had a look at the Norfolk Baptism Project?

The Common Room / Re: Tracing Irish relatives

Hi

I just noticed that the age of the eldest child might make the marriage a bit earlier.

A bit of a long shot, but in 1851 there is a Thomas Day age 20 from Ireland lodging in Ipsley, Warwickshire which is not too far from Kidderminster. He is a Sugar Boiler. The age is a bit out - but maybe he was pretending to be older to get a job!

Hi

This won't help with the marriage but I have found the family in 1871.

Forge Row, Christ Church, Rawmarsh

Thomas Day aged 36 boilermaker born Ulster
Elizabeth aged 32 born Kidderminster
Five children, the eldest being 13 but I can't read the place of birth, perhaps someone else might be able to help.

My last contribution for today:

Beare Salkind was born approx 1852. His parents were Simon (born 1804, London), and Hannah - born in Poland according to the 1851 census and in Russia according to the 1861 census. There lots of other little Salkinds...

in 1891 a Simon Salkind was acquitted of larceny.

Simon Salkind is  mentioned in the book I told you about earlier as being a member of the Hebrew Congregation from 1838 or earlier.

Let me know if there is anything else you would like me to look up.

Regards and good night

Harriett and younger sister Ruth Gertrude were both baptised in St Georges Hindolveston on 17 June 1894 - as "adults". This would make sense if they were Jewish and were converting...

Hi yes George William is Ellen's little brother - looks like we've found the connection!

I think Harriet's parents were Beare and Elizabeth Salkind. He was a watchmaker born in Norwich.
Still looking...

Me again.

This is where it starts to get complicated.

I have found Arthur aged 6 in the 1881 census, living with his mother Susanna Codling, aged 24 and born in Gunthorpe. She is a dressmaker, and apparently unmarried. There is also an Ernest WH aged one, plus a sister (I think that means to Susanna rather than Arthur) called Rachel (20), and an uncle, Shadrack W Skillings aged 38.

This would seem to indicate that Arthur's parents were not married.

In 1891, Arthur, now a carpenter, is still living with his mother and Ernest and there is a new child Jessie aged 3. Also living with them are Uncle Shadrack William Skillings and Susannah Codling mother/widower/pauper aged 65.

Now there aren't many Shadrack William Skillingses about so having a quick look he seems to be the brother of Susannah Codling (the mother) - there was  Susan Skillings born 1825 to the same parents and Susan/Susanna/Susannah are often used interchangeably.

If I'm not making any sense please say!

I have yet to find a birth for Arthur. Might be worth trying to find out if there were any Salkind/codling/Sayer connections.

Regards

Kirstie
