Hello again Zbig,
I've just noticed that you only have one posting on Rootschat and you need three before you can use the personal message system.
If you post a reply to my message twice, I'll be able to send you a personal message.

Hello Zbig,
Welcome to Rootschat! Thank you for your post. Are you related to Gregory and the family? I will send you a personal message with my Email address. I may be able to identify some of the people in your photos.

Hi Landej,
Thank you for the info. I'll look at the website later and let you know if I'm successful. It's really weird when you find yourself on someone else's website isn't it - especially if they get the info wrong! Thanks again

Dear Rootschatters,
I first posted about William Holford in 2008. (Sorry if I should have continued on the same posting and I don't know how to link this message to the the old posting.  :(

William HOLFORD b 1790 married Ann FRYER nee PHILLPOT in 1828 in Portsea St Mary (Thank you littlenell you were superb in helping me out :)). At the time he was a widower and I've been trying to trace his birth and first marriage ever since.

I've finally found a William ALLFORD baptised 5/6/1790 in St Mary Southampton, the son of William ALLFORD and Anne Mathew (previosly GRANT nee REED) which I think is him. Now I'm trying to find his marriage to his first wife. Options so far are:
Elizabeth DEAN - marriage 18/8/1813 Alverstoke
Sarah COOK marriage 9/12/1820 Portsea St Mary
Martha REED marriage 27/10/1824 Portsea St Mary

Can anyone tell me whether Elizabeth, Sarah or Martha died before 1828?
Many thanks for your help and apologies for the length of the posting.

The Branscombe Project is surveying St Winifred's Graveyard and many Memorial Inscriptions are now available on line.

The project has also put most of the parish council photographs on the Web.

You can see the links from the Branscombe Project Web site.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Non Conformist Burial - Jane Washbourne
« on: Thursday 01 August 13 15:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,
I'm looking for the burial of Jane Washbourne.
She died on 20 November 1882, aged 80, in Torquay, Devon. However, there is no trace of her burial in Torquay or in her birth place of Beer, Devon.  :'(
She was a widow when she died and her late husband was Nathaniel Washbourne who died in Norfolk Terrace, South Hamlet, Gloucester on 02/07/1861.
As I can't find her burial, where she should be, I am wondering if she was buried with her husband in Gloucestershire.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.

Wow!
Thanks Stan :) I thought I was on an impossible task. I think she may have been a catholic Nun so I'll follow through with the info you've provided me with.
Many thanks

Occupation Interests / Completed:How do you trace a Nun?
« on: Thursday 17 January 13 14:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,
Does anyone have any information about tracing a Nun? I have recently discovered that one of my partners family was a Nun. She was born in about 1848 (exact brith still to be found) in the Highgate, London area and I've tracked her on Census data until 1871 - she then "disapears". She definately became a nun as we have some photos of her. As we have photos, she coudn't, I think, be part of a closed order.
Were Nuns subject to the census?
Is there any way of finding out what her name became when she took holy orders?
Any thoughts or help would be gratefully received.

Thank you all for your interesting information and observations.  8)
I know I've got the right family but I still don't know who they are. Try as I might, shouting at the photo "who are you" doesn't work!  ;D
