Hi Tom, I'm glad you met Annie, by all accounts she was a really nice lady. I found Annie's grave in Whitworth Road Cemetery, Swindon, we've put a little marker on the grave because it's not got a headstone, hopefully it'll last a while.

I'll have a look at the Corfu possibility and let you know if I find anything.

Thanks, Diane

Hi all,

Happily, I'm still following this thread!

Roseb087, just to let you know that I'm researching my husband's family. His great-grandmother was Annie Stubbs, Daniel's (wife Kate Spring) sister. Annie wasn't married to my husband's grandfather, William's father, but DNA proves I have the correct family. Also, I knew my husband's mother (Anne Kelly nee Stubbs) very well and she told me a lot about the family history.

So for Tom:- Annie 1883-1965 and her siblings, Daniel 1877-1964, Mary 1880-1901, Michael 1885-1912, William 1888-1892, Christopher 1890-1965 (your grandfather) and baby Charles 1892-1893 whose parents were William Stubbs 1851-1928 and Mary Beechinor 1854-1927.

I only know William was born in Cork from the 1901 and 1911 censuses, but I'm sure you know this already. William died in the North Cork County Home of Valvular Disease of the Heart and Bronchitis.  He was a widowed Labourer, late of Mallow and aged 68 years. This means he was born in about 1860. There are some discrepancies about his date of birth as in 1911 he says he is 60 years old but the same goes for his wife Mary who died in the same County Home of Rheumatic Arthritis and Endo-Carditis the previous year, the informant was their daughter Annie who was now married to Jeremiah McCarthy. Having said this as they were the only Stubbs family in Mallow I'm 99% certain of my facts.

Tom, I also think that you know that Mary Ann Clarke was married in a civil ceremony to Samuel Stubbs in Mallow on the 10th May 1849. Still, though I can't find an actual record of William's birth, lots of people have William as their son but no actual proof. I guess that if Samuel was a Soldier he could have, in reality, been born anywhere Samuel went with Mary Anne.

Good hunting
Diane

Hi, thank you so much for your help, I guessed as much.

My friend has found her paperwork and she says that she has an invoice from William Whelan Funeral Furnishers of Grey Abbey, Kildare dated 28 Feb 1946 for the funeral of the late Patrick Maher dated 26 Feb 1946 and a telegram to one of his sons saying 'your dad died today 26 Feb signed Matron' So I think we can conclude that Patrick got his wish and was buried with daughter Catherine (Katie) in Grey Abbey and so was his wife Bridget, as you found.

Apparently, there was a metal cross grave marker which I expect has gone by now.

Strange that we can't find a death record, but never mind I think we have enough to go on. I don't have any experience in finding a plot number in Ireland, in England I would email the local council do I do the same in Ireland? Can you help me in this?

Hi, yes my friend has found a letter from his son saying he was going to the county home, I've sent her a message to ask her to check her dates. It must be after 1937 as when his wife Bridget died she was recorded as being married.

Thanks for your help so far, if I get anything back from my friend I'll continue the post.

BTW Catherine Esther was Patrick's daughter not sister.

Wow, thanks so much for this, I assume the Parish Church would be St Bridget's Parish Church in Kildare.

I have found out that Patrick Maher who died in 1945/6 died at the Sisters of Mercy in Athy and that his request was that he be buried with 'Katie' who would be his sister Catherine Esther Maher who died of TB aged 16 in Fair View Cottages on 11 March 1918.

Would you be kind enough to see if you can see anything about them please?

Hi all,
I'm trying to find out where someone who died in Fairview Cottages in Kildare would have been buried. Her name is Bridget Maher nee Kelly and she died aged 63 years on 22 April 1937. Her husband was Patrick Maher b 2 Jan 1864 and died about 1945/6. I have a receipt from the funeral director which is dated Feb 1946 but no other details. I think he may have gone into a home of some sort.
My friend is going to Ireland in a few weeks and would like to sprinkle some of her sister's ashes in the graveyard where her grandparents were buried.
If anyone can help I would be so grateful.
Diane

Hi John, we spoke some time ago regarding the Stubbs in Mallow family. Could you pm me your email address as I have a question, you did send it before but I've lost it.  :-[

Thanks
