Hi Ann,

I have a few TUCKERs in my family tree dating back to 17th & 18th centuries, many of them from 'Chard near Taunton', but no Williams and no Mabel DUDDRIDGE in my records.

Pity. Regards,
Allan

Hi Pam,

The only surname HORTON in my ancestors date back to the early 1700s and are not from Lincolnshire. I had a look on the International Genealogy Index (Church of JC Latter Day Saints) website and found the following results from the 1881 British census: Joseph HORTON born Wigston, Leicester approx. 1839, wife Elizabeth born approx. 1865 at Plumstead, Kent, and children Elizabeth (b.1865), Samuel (1871). Catherine (1872) & Isaac (1879). Is this your family? I also found a Robert HORTON b. abt. 1818 at Aylesby in Lincoln (a labourer) married to Elizabeth b. abt. 1817 at Clixby, Lincoln. But can't find where this Robert & Elizabeth had a son Joseph. This probably confuses more than helps.
Cheers,
Allan

Hi Ann,

I'm Allan Brown from Brisbane. I have the following ancestors with the surname of Gillard:
William born abt. 1698 who married Elizabeth HILLARD on 30 Dec 1723
Wm & Eliz had a son John born at Martock, Somerset in 1725
John married Frances (surname unknown)
John & Frances had the following children all born at Barrington, S'set:
John 1743 (probably died before 1749 (see below)
Fein (female, may have also been called Joan) b. 1745
John 1749
Frances b. 26 Dec 1751, died Dec 1815
Betty b. 1761.

Joan Gillard married Robert ENGLAND and they had a daughter called Mary ENGLAND (no joke) who was born in 1770.

Best wishes.

I have three Masters in my records, all females from Somerset, but I have not been able to trace their relationship with each other: Elizabeth, b. abt. 1700 at Barrington, m. John Hallett at Barrington in Aug. 1723; Sarah, b abt. 1715 @ South Petherton, m John Tucker @ Sth P in 1736; and Ann, b abt 1800 @ Shepton Beauchamp, m Benjamin Garrett @ S'ton B in Mar 1822.

Somerset / Re: LOCKYER of Kingstone

Hi Peter,

Nice to hear from you, but will not be able to open any doors on your family history research.

Rosanna LOCKYER is one of the big mysteries in my family tree. She was my GGGG grandmother, and the records say she was born about 1744 at Kingstone, Somerset. She married Stephen HUTCHINGS in October 1765, also at Kingstone. However, I have never been able to find out anything about her parents or siblings (if any).

And that's it.

Cheers,

Allan (from Brisbane, Australia)

Hi there,

My HUTCHINGS ancestors come mainly from Seavington St Mary which is 3 miles east of Ilminster, and Hinton St George is only 4 miles from Ilminster (don't know which direction). So the two places are close, possible very close. Any more details?

Cheers,
Allan

Somerset / Re: Somerset surnames: JEFFERY/JEFFREY
« on: Tuesday 07 October 08 05:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi Paula,

My GG grandmother was a Sarah Osburn JEFFERY born about 1816, father Richard and mother Elizabeth HUTCHINGS. I can't locate where she was born, but she married a Hugh HALLETT in August 1835 at Shepton Beauchamp. Sarah was the youngest of (at least) 5 children to Richard & Elizabeth. Her siblings were John (b 1803), Ann (1806), Thomas (1807) and Richard (1812). Her grandfather and G grandfather on the JEFFERY side lived at Stocklynch Ottersay - John born 1739 and Francis b 1702. No Timsbury or Newton however.

Cheers,
Allan

Somerset / Re: Somerset surnames: ABBOTT
« on: Tuesday 07 October 08 05:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi Patricia,

Thanks for your reply. My only ABBOTT ancestor is an Elizabeth ABBOTT born about 1689 at Ilton. She married James BEST at St Michael's Church, Shepton Beauchamp in July 1710. All of this generations before the 1880s, so no obvious connection. Pity.

Cheers,
Allan
