The original is tiny, no writing to be seen. It was with my parents pre war holiday snaps. I know that they went to Margate, Isle of Wight, Skegness, Lowestoft and my mother as a teen went to New Brighton, near Liverpool.

Never done this before, I hope it works.

This is a list of all English counties and has where you can find on line images and indexes

Thanks for you thoughts. I wonder if it could have been taken from a troop ship then during WWII.
My father went via South Africa to the middle east. I don't know what route they took home.

This photo was taken in the 1930's.

Do any of you recognize the place?

Thanks Aghadowey.

Yes I think Nick's daughter was a bit mixed up when she registered his death.
The age of Bridget Power who died in 1873 does not match the age of the one in the 1871 census.
That worries me. I will have another look There are so many Powers in Halifax and Waterford and so many of them are Patrick and Bridget!

None of Nicholas's 3 siblings who were born in Halifax were named Patrick or Bridget, so I am pretty sure that they had more children before they arrived in Halifax.

I have trawled through 2 parishes on the website you gave me.

Thanks again.

That was Nicholas, he married Mary Jane Sheehan. I have lots of info on him. That 1st marriage of his in 1864 was the tough one to find. He was a career police officer in Halifax.
Patrick and Bridget were in West Halifax, Ward 2, ages 73 and 66 in 1871.
Nicholas and Mary Jane were also in West Halifax but Ward 1.

the 1871 census in Halifax has a couple Patrick and Bridget Power, but I have no idea if these are the correct ones. This Patrick is a carpenter. They don't appear to be in the 1881 census. The earlier censuses are almost useless.
I cannot find suitable deaths for either of them.
This Patrick may have died about 1875 as he disappears from the trade directories about then.

I fear that cemetery records are the only place to find them.

I have made a start on the Waterford prs. So many parishes and no idea if it is Waterford town or county!
