Antrim / Re: Orange Hall, Antrim coast?

Hi John

Thank you for your reply and for confirming that it is definitely not the Kilroot Orange Hall.  I only wished I could remember the exact location of the Hall.  Yes, John it was definitely an Orange Lodge Hall as it had all the appropriate Flags flying for the 12th July Orange Celebrations and my Irish pen-pal who was with me at the time, confirmed that it was an Orange Hall.  Sadly, all I can recall was that it was on the right-hand side of a main road as we headed in a northerly direction along the Antrim coast heading towards the west to Portrush....I know this is not much help but it was located somewhere between the time we left Carrickfergus as we followed the scenic route through Whitehead, Magheramorne, Glynn, Larne, Drains Bay, Carfunnock, Ballygally, Glenarm, Carnlough, Glenariff, Cushendall, Knocknacarry, Cushendun, Runabay Head, Torr Head, Ballycastle, Dunluce and then Portrush.  I do so appreciate your help but I can understand and with a touch of sadness that I am unable to pin-point the particular location of this splendid Orange Hall.   Sincerely, Donna

Hi John

Many thanks for your reply.  The Hall was actually completely painted in a vivid orange colour.  It was heading towards Larne.    It was the main road out of Carrickfergus...would that be Larne Road as well?

I would be overjoyed if you can identify it for me, please.  The only other details I have written in my travel diary are the following....left Carrickfergus at 5 pm, followed the Causeway scenic route through Whitehead, Magheramorne, Glynn, Larne, Drains Bay, Carfunnock.....this particular Orange Hall may well have been somewhere in this area.

My sincere thanks in helping me with my search.

Kind regards, Donna from Queensland, Australia

The link you gave me was much appreciated.  Sadly, I have not been able to find the particular Orange Lodge Hall I was hoping to locate (the hall being painted in a vivid orange colour and on the main road on the right hand side as you head towards the west along the Antrim Coast).  I am almost certain that it was in the area of Carrickfergus.  Unfortunately, all of the Orange Halls are not photographed so I may not be able to locate it which is a bit sad as I have a vivid picture of it in my head.

Antrim / Orange Hall, Antrim coast?

Thank you for your kind offer.  I was in Ireland for the 12th July Orange Parade this year and was enormously proud that I had the opportunity of being part of it (although just a spectator).  There was an Orange Hall I passed with numerous colourful flags along the Antrim Coast.  It was very striking and would have loved to have taken a photo at the time but unfortunately was not able to.  Could I please ask if you could put me in touch with some kind person who may be able to assist in supplying a photo of this Orange Hall for me.   Thank you for your time in reading my request and I am more than happy to supply me email address if this is of any assistance.  With sincere thanks, Donna from Queensland, Australia.

Hi there, I am searching for my John Kelly who was born Calton and was a Cotton Carder.  Appears on the 1841 Census as age 60 years living in Linwood Village, Renfrew.   Could not locate him on an 1851 Census.  I was wondering if sks would be able to check Lanarkshire Obituaries/Death Notices and/or Renfrew Obituaries/Death Notices for me.

Hi Glen

Donna from Australia here.  My Polwarth ancestors came for the areas you mentioned - Foulden, Whitsome and Ladykirk.

Could I kind ask if you would be able to share the photos you have with me.  It would be much appreciated.

Thank you for reading this and look forward to hearing from you.  Donna
