Wow, I haven't looked at this website for ever!  Thanks for the info!  I was actually in Tuam in September last year and found the site of the butchers and also the graves of the some of the Hopkins family.  Thanks again, Kim

Hi Shari!

If you use the search facility at the top of the page, type in "Tracing Olive Gibbons Home Child' in the 'Search for' box, click on  'match any words' in the box next to it and then in the 'by user' box type in KAberdein.  Scroll to the bottom of the page, click on search and that will take you to a new page.  Just click on 'Tracing Olive Gibbons etc' and you'll then be on the page with all the posts.  You'll then be able to click on any of the people who have posted messages, ie KAberdein and then send them a message!!!!  How exciting, you're about to be united family....................!!!  Let me know how it goes.   :) :) :)

Kind regards,
Kim

Hello Shari!!  It's lovely to hear from you!  I'm assuming you know our very tenuous connection is only through the fact that your grandma and my husband's great aunt were 'British Home Children' together and remained friends I believe throughout their lives.  I have been researching Ivy Stimpson on behalf of my husband's family. I've just been reading back through the posts on the subject of Olive, and I corresponded with Kate Aberdein who is the great granddaughter of Olive's sister, Margaret.  She was desperate to trace any of her Canadian relatives.  Are you in touch with her?  Let me know how I can help if you're not.......................... this post was the start of the correspondence........

Hi
I hope someone can help me.

My mums nan Margaret Gibbons was one of three girls taken into care by Barnardos in the 1920's.  Margaret's sister Olive Gibbons was sent to Canada on assisted emigration in 1925 when she was just 15 years old.  We have her file from Barnardos but it does not have much information about her life in Canada.  We know that she married and had 3 children, 1 boy and 2 girls.  The eldest was a girl and nicknamed Bambi but we have no idea what her real name was.  My mums mum, Margaret's daughter, did receive a Christmas card from one of Olives daughters but unfortunately my mums mum has advanced dementia and cannot recall any details.

I would dearly love to try and trace any descendants that I have in Canada and get in touch but I really don't know where to start.

If anyone has any ideas that might help, I would be very grateful.

Regards

Kate Aberdein

Kim

Thanks for the info Tim...............don't know how I managed that!!?

Anyway.....the photo looks absolutely lovely, my only criticism would be that the dress isn't red enough.  It really was a red and white dress rather than orange/pink etc etc.  Would it be possible for you to correct the colour?  Otherwise (I hope I don't sound ungrateful, I hope you know I am completely grateful), the photo is perfect.  Many many thanks for your time,
kindest regards,
Kim

Hi to you lovely restorers,
I've managed to scan this photo at 300 thingies so although it's small (actual size) I hope it's enough to have an even better result (Irene?).

My dress is red and white, brother's cardigan is light blue, white dress, pastel background (Mum can't remember what colour!), we're both fair with golden blonde hair, blue eyes.

Thank you very much in advance..........

kind regards,
Kim

Quite frankly everyone, I have no idea what I'm doing.............why is the photo now an attachment???

Oh Irene!!!!!  what can I say.................?  That is so lovely, thank you sooooooo much.  The colour totally brings us to life!  I will try and scan the photo rather than upload a photo of a photo.......I WILL work it out!!!!!!!  In the meantime, a massive thank you and if my scan does fail, then I won't feel I've settled for second best, your colour is lovely!

Thanks again.........watch this space!!!!

kindest regards,
Kim
