Down / Re: Major family of Bangor

Hi
I have some information on the McJury/Majors given to me by a descendant of William and Fanny. Unravelling the family connections is a little confusing however and my interest is actually in the Hamilton Smith family (Hamilton married Ellen McJury). You can message me with questions and I will look through what I have.

Further to my posts above, I now believe that Thomas McGee did in fact come from the Killinchy area.  I still need to find his baptism, but have found the following -
William Magee and Grace had several children including James.
James is Thomas' father and married Mary Moorhead.  They had several children including John and Thomas (who both went to NZ).
I have dates and some baptisms for many of these people; some of this info came from Presbyterian records from 1836.
My question to anyone is....... I am considering going to PRONI as I will be in Ireland next year (from Australia) but do not have much time.  I understand the Killinchy Presbyterian Church records are there on microfilm; I have the numbers from the guide.  It should be straightforward as I believe they were not non-subscribing Pres.
Will it take me forever to find the baptisms of John and Thomas (approx 1841 and 1845)? I see there is and index to Pres Killinchy for 1812-1854, but then I would still have to look at the other microfilms of the actual entries.  I only have one day.
Anyone out there have experience of this ?
Thanks

Australia / Re: looking for CUSSEN - JARVIS from Kinsale Cork

Hi Jaymorse
Have just come back to this after a long absence and didn't realize there was a question to me here. Unfortunately I don't know anything about Margaret Buckley's parents; all I have is- b1851 NSW ; d 11.8.1888; buried Coonabarabran RC Cemetery; m Samuel Cussen 11.1.1868 Mudgee; children Samuel John and James.  This came from the Coonabarabran Pioneer register, which a friend looked up for me when they were down that way.
Samuel Cussen (not sure which) is apparently also mentioned in a book "Horsemen of the First Frontier"

Hi Lorc
Sorry no more progress on Jervois-Cussen

Also wondering if anyone ever got the death certificate for Jane Cussen (Sullivan)?

Thanks for that therave; I haven't looked at all this for a while; that site looks good.  I have since found the death record for Thomas' brother John in NZ, but there were no more clues on that about where exactly they came from.  I looked at the search results on historical foundation site, but when i put in mary moorhead's name as mother I get no results for Thomas or John, but get results for both when James the father is put in.  Hmm....guess I'll have to decide whether to pay up and go in to this further !! I might, as I have other Nth Ireland ancestors. Thanks again for your reply.

Thank you for your reply Lorc.  I really can't be sure that the Jarvis' and Jervois' are the same (though I have suspected it).  Hence it is probably premature for me to be getting more info at this stage.  In fact I have been just reviewing my information about Samuel Cussen and I do not have any definitive documents which say he came from Kinsale - only Cork.  There was a Samuel Cussan who arrived in Aus. on the Orient in 1839 from Kinsale, but his parents were Patrick and Ellen Hungerford, wheras my Samuel's death cert says Thomas and Charlotte Jarvis.  I really don't have much on the family at all.
Anyway thanks for the offer and I shall definitely be contacting you if I find more information in the future.

Down / Magee co. Down
« on: Tuesday 08 March 11 01:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I am looking for the birth/baptism record of Thomas Magee (probable spelling) who was born around 1843-1849 in Co. Down.  (Well most records say Co Down but the probate said Antrim.)  His father was James Magee and mother Mary Moorhead married in Killinchy 1834.  I have a lot of info on the Moorheads.  Unfortunately no records I have state the name of the village from which he came - just the county.
Thomas went to NZ in possibly 1863 with possibly a brother John.
He married Catherine McBratney in Christchurch in 1884.  The McBratneys also lived in Killinchy and I have a lot of information about them.
There is also talk that he was Catholic in Ireland but became Protestant in NZ.
Not sure how to find this record without a more definite area.  I have marriage death and probate records from NZ and none say a town name.  No one knows what happened to the supposed brother John either.
Thanks in anticipation of any ideas.....

Hello Peter
Can't really add much to your line apart from Sam who married Marg Buckley had a brother James b4.2.1877.  I still haven't gone any further back with Sam and Jane form Kinsale.  There has been a suggestion it was Jervois. I do have Sam and Jane's children's names and families. I am descended from Thomas.

Thank you both for your information.  It is interesting to see he lived in the area in which some of my other unrelated ancestors lived.

Hi Craig
I believe Edward John Pobar (1895-1938) is Josephine's son.  Unfortunately I don't know anything more about him.  I live in hope that one day someone who knows something about Josephine may pop up !!
