Sorry if this is too late to help - I've just spotted this query. In response to the question about spelling of names - it was common practice until fairly recently for RC registers to Latinise the name, so Maria might actually be Mary or Maria on the birth certificate, Patricius might be Patrick or Padraig. Patricii refers to being the Father of x. The Latin could be somewhat dodgy depending on how long it was since the priest had studied its grammar.
