Hi,

In the Bucks visitations for the Rufford family there is a reference to an Edward Cheldry of Cheldry, Bucks. Does anybody have any idea where this place could be located ?

Barry

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Wolverhampton Marriage - Roden/Aspberry

Hi Ciderdrinker,

Thank you for the details about the Aspery/Asbury family.

So far I can trace the family back to Thomas Roden, butcher of Shifnal and his wife Margaret Swan. When Thomas died in 1798 his age was given as “50” (likely a guess) giving a DOB of c1748.  If John Roden, butcher and Alice were his parents then there is a gap in their children's births where Thomas could fit but it does not explain why he was not baptised in the parish church.

I think I need to visit the Midlands and spent some time in the ROs and libraries to see if I can trace this family's origins further.

Again, thanks

Thank you both for your replies.

The Shifnal reference means I may be on the wright track with this couple - need more details about John Roden.

Again, thanks

Hi,

I have a John Roden marrying Alice Aspberry on 16th July 1740 at St Peter(s), Wolverhampton. It would be appreciated if someone on their next visit to the Staffs RO could look at the entry to see if there are any more details relating to this couple.

Hi Althea,

Thanks for your response. I had a look at the NZ web site and as the info I require falls within the last 100 years I think I'll give NZ the miss.

World War Two / WW2 Russian Ports
« on: Friday 28 January 11 18:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Has anybody heard of a russian port called Venga used by the Royal Navy during WW2? A story is that a family member was in port there when he heard that he was the father of a baby girl so he called her Venga. I'v checked maps and the net but nothing found. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Barry
