Hi Phil

Pleased to help.

Do you have any other details at all?

This will take a while cos I'm nursing my wife, who is rather ill at moment. I will check the archive when I can

I've just joined and I'm amazed at the reponse I've had to my questions

I want to offer my assistance to anybody  trying to trace details of relatives in Gibraltar.

I'm willing to help when I have time

Records are split here in Gib. Military records appear to no longer be here, but the Garrison Church bmd records are in the Chapel just across the road from me

The Gib civilian archive is computerised, but not online. However,  I live just around the corner and the Archivist is very helpful.

TOPIC LOCKED. For a lookup please start a NEW TOPIC on The Census & Resource Request board or send johnbyrne316 a Personal Message.

Hi Jorose

Yes, it's the same man -  and he seems to have vanished!

Thanks

Iv'e got my hard copy in store after moving. I'll chase it up and check the details I have in my laptop and get back to you tomorrow if possible.

At a glance, it looks as if you have the same man.

I'll be in touch

I've worked my way back to my greatgreat grandfather.

He was James Maling, a saddle/harness maker,  born about 1808, in Ilford and  he seems to have had his way with his housekeeper, Charlotte Peat (maybe nee Wilson). My great grandfather, William Maling Peat, was the result.

William's birth certificate shows father as James Peat, but his Metropolitan Police Service record show father as James Maling - so I arrive at the obvious conclusion

I am stuck at James Malings dob, which is on Census. But I can't get any more information.

Can anybody point me in the right direction? I live in Gibraltar and I'm having no luck at all on line

Hi Wendy

Thanks for your info. I'll try Military as you suggested.
I think I've located an elderly family member who might be able to give me Gerald's service number.
If I get it I'll ask for help again

God bless

. Hi

Born Cork, Ireland, believed in Gt William O'Brien Street, 12 January 1889

I believe he also worked recruiting for the Army when he returned to Cork after leaving the Army.

I tried to post this a few minutes ago, but it vanished. So, here I go again

My Grandfather, Gerald Byrne served with the Royal Munster Fusiliers in the NW Frontier around 1908. He was apparntly wounded in action in the Khyber Pass.
Where can I get details of his army service and/or medals?

I live in Gibraltar and can't visit easily UK for record searches
