Europe / Re: John Gerald Fitzmaurice - born France

It is now 2021 and I don't recall seeing your message of 2017 !!

I am very interested to hear of the Stack/Fitzmauice connections.  Does Duagh House still remain?  You obviously have a copy of John Gerald's book about his father Major General John Fitzmaurice.  I wonder, in fact, how many copies there are printed ?

I would like any further information if you have it.

Many thanks.

Hi Jill - I will have a look at the boorman tree.
I cannot see how to attach a Word document ?  It has photos. It does say 'attachments and other options' but no option to do it or am I just being stupid ?

Hi Jill

Just to confuse things !  I am Freddy who put out the origina request on Rootschat !!  It was some years ago and I was nervous about putting my real name !

I am Susan, and John Compton was my 2nd Great Uncle.  My line from the Comptons is from Thomas Allen Compton, my Great Grandfather.

I too have been in touch with Sandra over the years and she has put in a lot of work.  I am afraid I haven't done much updating of my tree for a long time.  I have been working on other people's family trees but haven't looked at mine.

Up until four years ago, I lived in Hampshire and visited Lockerly etc.

I have found another relative called Anne - her grandmother Alice Compton was sister to my Compton grandmother.  I have a Word document with details and photos which I sent her - you might find it interesting but I am not sure how to send it to you.

Where do you liive?

Regards
Susan (nee Kitto) Fitzmaurice

The Common Room / Re: Turner Memorial Home in Liverpool

How clever !  Just never thought of something so simple!  Yes, I am sure that is correct. My Great Uncle has an S beside his name and he was single.Thank you very much.

There is another column showing O,V, S, P or I at the top.  Everyone is listed as P.   Any ideas on that one?

The Common Room / Turner Memorial Home in Liverpool
« on: Tuesday 31 July 18 20:31 BST (UK)  »
In 1939, my Great Uncle, Arthur Dunstan Kitto was at the Turner Memorial Home, Dingle Head, Liverpool.

On the 1939 Register it lists him as a Post Office Clerk. However, a lot of the men are listed as Cripple or Mentally deficient.  Alongside columns headed Birth date, M/F etc. there is also a column headed S, M, W or D.

Has anyone any idea what these letters stand for ?

Thanks

Freddy

Just to continue with some family information......I have been in contact with a newly-found relative of the Compton family and she has written ...

"Grandma Compton's mother was (I was told) the daughter of the Hathaway owner of Ozleworth Park near Wotton Edge, Glos. and she eloped with D.Essex a tenant farmer of the estate and was disowned."

Perhaps this is the answer to the query from Sandra dated Wednesday 11 January 2012 ?

Thank you so much for all the helpful information.  I had missed quite a lot in my search.

Details on Kate and Henry's Marriage Certificate are:

Henry Sutton (Widower) Age 34  Chief Petty Officer RN - address: St Budeaux Camp, Devonport

Father was Charles Sutton deceased (Ganger G. E. Railway)

Witnesses: Richard Ashworth, Ruth A. Ashworth

Marriage took place (By Licence) at the Belmont Wesleyan Chapel, Devonport

The Sutton family seem quite elusive as we can find nothing about them !!

Thank you so much for your help so far.
