New Zealand Completed Requests / John HAMILTON 1804-1865
« on: Thursday 05 February 15 13:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to trace the New Zealand ancestry for:John Hamilton,B-1804 Scotland,D-1865 NZ,his Wife:Lillias Hamilton,B-1816 Scotland,D-1881 NZ.Children all born in Scotland:John 1839. James 1840. Alex 1842,D-1819 NZ. Adam 1844,D-1931 NZ. Robert,1848. Janet,1849. Lilias 1853,D-1938. Elizabeth,1857,D-1910 NZ. Joseph,1860.
It seems some of them they lived around Dunedin NZ. Be good to find date of arrive/vessel etc in NZ,
Ancestry.com has no record.

Have this Family on the Scottish 1851/1861 census, living at:Millburn Farm,Parish of Dalserf,County of Lanark, they then seem to have emigrated to NZ,have MI for John Hamilton,D-14th Jan 1865,Wife Lilly,D-5th Feb 1881. Adam Hamilton,D-2nd Aug 1931,Wife Barbara Souness,D-23rd July 1923.
Any census record/B.M.D will be really welcomes.
James

Dear Jean,
A wee note of my grateful THANKS to you for ALL the time you invested in assisting me to find data on ROBERT PAUL,your detailed instructions on how to download his probate was "master class"in how to research ancestry,I have his many Probate pages to now place on his file.
I would seem ROBERT never married, his will instruction only provided that all his assets/cash were passed to his Brother:William Paul in Palmerston.
Now onto finding additional data on William,in particular his Marriage to Eliz Porter, abt, 1863 in Dunedin.
Once again, many thanks,do trust you are in good health,I am fine, recently returned from a visit to Saudi Arabia, first time for 28 yrs,lived/worked in KSA 1975 thro 1984,my,my,has the place changed.
Every Good Wish,
James

Hello DonM,
Many thanks for your mail, note your input comments:
1/Robert,son of Walter/Margaret Watson,born,11th Oct 1803,D-21st May 1885,the Robert Paul who died on this date was MY G/G Father,he was Baptised 19th Feb 1804,parents:Walter and Margaret (Peggy)Watson, names on SP,death cert

Walter and Margaret had another ROBERT baptised on the day you recorded:11th Oct 1803,what I do not understand is TWO Robert,s,(same Parents),possible the 1803 child died,or this child was born in 1802,baptised before it died and my G/G Father was named Robert following death of the earlier Robert, have you a view on this?.

The Robert Paul I am seeking:Died 23rd May 1876,burial in Killearn,date on M.I.Stone

He was /Dumb/Blind,listed as this on 1871/1861/1851 census docs,Drumbeg Farm,Killearn.

I think he was born to :James Paul/Margaret Brook,BORN:9th March 1801,Baptised 15th March,I have the SP cert to hand.
Look forward to yur comments.
Regards,
James

CaroleW,
Many thanks for your speedy reply, yes have searched IGI,a number of Parents may be considered<Margaret Watson,Walter Paul, seem to be the considered choice, apart from the 1871 census stating Robert was "UNCLE to the Head,John Paul,43yrs who was born of Walter/Margaret Watson, the not a Uncle.
Seems I cannot obtain thr Poor house records on line which may give some info.???.
Regards,
James
