Jennifer - thank you for the 1871 census information.  It is looking as if my Castle ancestors were quite long lived!

Thank you so much and I did not have all this information.  My own Castles were John and Hannah and on marriage they were both called Castle.   The other information I did not have so it is much appreciated.

Much appreciated NDRFT

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / 1841 and 1861 CENSUS LOOKUPS HOOK NORTON
« on: Sunday 01 June 14 13:22 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone please assist me with a lookup for a relative John CASTLE who was baptised at Hook Norton in 1796 and married a lady named Mary Embra/Embrow.   I have him in 1851 census still in Hook Norton as an Ag Lab,   but would like to find him in 1841 when he would have been in his 40's and in 1861 .

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you so much for trying.

I have tried to get a better scan but just could not - the shadows on the faces are very dark.

On these two pictures I can recognise him anyway and I so much appreciate the help.

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage search in Parish Registers Cane 1885
« on: Thursday 29 May 14 15:04 BST (UK)  »
Yes I had the marriage of Rose to Charles Keen and the details are correct for Rose, my husband's gt grandmother.    I was puzzled by the marriage to James Cane.   I know James and Rose went to Canada as my husband's aunt used to visit the relatives there but I just had those few names .  I wish I had asked  about them before she died.  My husband's grandmother was an illegitimate child of Rose born in  Suffolk and brought up in Kent by the grandparents James Gascoyne and Emma.  On 1881 census Charles Keen gave his birthplace as Oxford and in 1871 he was born Bucks. He had a brother James.

I need to get the marriage certificate of Rose and James to see if she was a spinster and if she was the daughter of James Gascoyne as shown correctly in the first marriage.

I am probably wrong thinking the husbands were brothers as there seem to be many Charles Keens and the similarity with Cane was confusing.

Thank you very much for the points you raise - a great help.
