Hi Noel,
How delighted I was to see your message this morning.   I have been searching for James and his brother Thomas for a number of years now.   I have only recently discovered where their older sister Jane Chisholm Cairns moved to.   She married Thomas Shiel.

I would be absolutely delighted to receive any more information about James.  Do you happen to have any info on his mother Agnes and brother Thomas too.   I wondered if they had all moved away from Lanton Mill together and for a while I did consider that they had moved abroad.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Jean

Wkarvetski I am so sorry that I've taken so long to send this message, have been pretty busy.   I've looked at the record but all it says is as follows:-
Wm Noble d Stirling 11.11.1879 68, w Betsy Proudfoot d there 14.12.1877 70, 6 of their chn inf.

I guess Sheila Scott only recorded the facts on the stones, not anything else.

Brina.

Hi Chas,

Sorry I haven't been in touch sooner.   Looked up the book tonight and this is what I found re the names you gave.   I've copied it exactly so hope you are OK with the abbreviations.

Robert White wright 23.8.1816 65, w Lilias Gray 9.2.1849 92;  Helen White Feb 1783 1 1/2;  Jas White Feb 1793 12;  Robt White July 1798 10;  Alex June 1808 12;  Robt Feb 1809 5;  Thos 21.8.1823 44

This is obviously your family.   There are a few other entries for White but the names don't match with those you supplied.   I can copy them out for you if you wish.   I have cross checked the womens maiden names and don't think any are related.

Hi Andy,

Brilliant, this helps enormously, thank you so much.   Seems a bit strange that an ordinary gardener was living there as it looks quite a grand building.   I like the photo and I have been able to blow it up a bit.

So now I know where he lived.   Thank you Andy.

You have all seen very kind, many thanks.   I was just curious to find out where MacEwens Buildings are/were in Callander.  I hoped that someone local might know.   I think you are correct Monica in that Callander was just too small at that time for detailed maps, although the town I live in did.   James was a gardener and died when he was only 57.   It may mean nothing but I was interested to note that his daughter Susan did not get married until after he died, she was always recorded as Help at Home.   I have only today managed to find out that she married and when she died.

James's wife Susan also, died in 1912 at Kincardine.   James's occupation as a gardener might have meant that he workeda s a gardener for a big house in the area or maybe just a market garden.   Might find out one day.

Thanks again.

Thank you everyone for your kind responses.  The James Stevenson I am referring to was married to Susan.   In 1891 census they were living in Main Street and previously at Bridgend.

I mentioned Stirling as Callendar appears in the Stirling directory but I realise that Callander is in Perthshire, but thank you for that.

Will do a bit more digging to find out what happen to susan their daughter who appeRs to have lived at home with them.

Many thanks.

Brina  :)
