Hi John
I think we are probably 3rd or 4th cousins. My grandmother visited America in the 1930s as her sister Maria had emigrated there. I have a newspaper cutting with a picture of her with a cousin called John Cousins! If I remember correctly he was someone important. I'm not at home at the minute (on holiday in England). I live in Northern Ireland. I'll be home next weekend and can scan the photo for you.
John Hamilton Killough - my grandmother's brother - had something to do with securing pensions for older people. He died in 1939 and I have photos of his funeral which seemed to be a fairly large affair. Do you have any old photos?
I can look out any other information you might want when I get home. Also we can private message after you have made 3 posts to this site.

Hi
My great grandmother was Ruth Graham McKay. She had a sister Maria Ann also other siblings including a brother John Hamilton. She married Robert Stewart Killough and named her eldest son John Hamilton. Her father was James McKay. I have been trying to find out how she was related to the Grahams but have not been able to find any info on this.
Ruth's youngest children were twin girls one of whom was my grandmother. Her name was Margaret Graham Killough. My mother was Ruth Graham Neely. So there is a Graham connection somewhere. I just can't find it!

Thanks. I might try ringing the council as I don't think I could climb over that fence!!

I think it might be Millrow church - not Milltown. Sorry!

Can the graveyard opposite Milltown church in the middle of Antrim be accessed. I am related to the Stirrett family from Dunsilly. I know there are Stirrett graves in Milltown Churchyard but I'd like to take a look at the the graveyard opposite but it seems to be locked and securely fenced.

Ireland / Re: Irish Newspapers, 1763-1890 Online

I have 4 old newspapers found in my father's house some years ago and lying in a cupboard in my house since. I was wondering what is the best thing to do with them. They are not in great condition but are readable.
One is  ' The Belfast Newsletter" dated 12th June 1750. Number 1333. It has Henry and Robert Joy at the top.
One is 'Belfast Commercial Chronicle" dated 23rd December 1807.
The other 2 are 'The Northern Whig' one dated 18th February 1840 and the other dated 26th August 1868.

Antrim / Re: Laughlins
« on: Saturday 30 January 16 16:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Gaffy

(Just to note the following Church of Ireland baptisms, the address for all is Antrim (town), the parents are Alexander and Esther Loughlin, his occupation is mason in all bar one: Esther Loughlin 28 September 1828; Catherine Loughlin 25 December 1830; Anne Loughlin 28 April 1833 (father Alexander's occupation = nailer); Matilda Loughlin 16 August 1835; David Loughlin 17 May 1840; Thomas Loughlin 12 November 1843.)

You posted these C of I baptisms all in Antrim town. Was there one for Henry? He was born 24th March 1838. I have him born in Cloughfern Whiteabbey. I also have his parents as Alexander and Esther who were married in Miltown Presbyterian Church in Antrim in 1824. Perhaps I've been looking at the wrong parents for Henry!! There is a churchyard in Antrim Town just opposite Miltown church but it is not open to the public. Would you know if this is a Church of Ireland Church?
Thanks

Hi
The James Laughlin (stone mason) may be a brother of my great grandfather Henry. I have not been able to find a connection other than they both had a father called Alexander. I have visited Carnmoney graveyard hoping to find my great grandfather's grave but was not successful. However I did see James Laughlin and his wife Margaret's grave (also a daughter buried with them). Their grave is on the same site as the church - to the right hand side of the church as you look at it from the road.
How do you think you might be related to these Laughlins?
I have found it difficult to find connections in this family. My great grandfather was born in 1838 although his parents  (Alexander and Esther) were married in 1824. So I have always assumed there might have been earlier siblings and James along with a few others would seem to fit. If you have any other information I would love to hear from you.
Regards
