Somerset / Oake, Somerset and James Strickland
« on: Saturday 16 December 06 16:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

In the 1851 census, James Strickland lived in Ramsbury, Wiltshire. James reported his place of birth as Oake in Somerset (b. abt 1814?), but to date I have not been able to confirm these details.

Is anyone else researching the Strickland's from this area? There seems to be a few Strickland's a little further North in Somerset in the later census and wondered if they might of the same family?

Cheers.

Wiltshire / Ramsbury - The Bell Inn (1850) STRICKLAND/LOVELOCK
« on: Saturday 16 December 06 16:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

In the 1851 census, James Strickland was the Innkeeper of the Bell Inn. On the census, James reported his place of birth as Oake in Somerset (b. abt 1814).

His wife was Elizabeth Lovelock (b. Kintbury abt.1824). They were married on the 22 Oct 1850 and had 4 children (Edward James - 1850   :o, Elizabeth -1852, William - 1853 and Susannah - 1857).

Has anyone researched this James Strickland or Elizabeth Lovelock?

Alternatively, does anyone have any history of the Bell Inn in Ramsbury? I'm interested in finding out when he took over the pub and the date he left to take over the Falcon Inn in Aldenmaston.

Thanks.

Durham / Re: Davie Family - Sunderland

Audrey,

Many thanks for that. I've checked to see if I could do what you have and found that Durham is missing from the drop-down lists of counties!

As a consequence, I'm trawling through 1,320 entries trying to weed out any "Davie's". So far, I haven't found a single "Davie" from Sunderland or even in the Durham area. I wonder if they have omitted this area in the 1901 census?

Could I be really cheeky and ask if you could run that search again and paste those names in this thread or even email them to me? my address is

Durham / Davie Family - Sunderland
« on: Sunday 28 November 04 15:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am posting this message on behalf of my neighbour - John Davie - who is now 70 years old and it's a real long-shot of an enquiry.

John was born in Sunderland in 1925, but was abandoned at birth, he therefore doesn't know who his mother or father were and more sadly if he has any family members still living in the area.

As I understand, John thinks he was born in Cumberland Terrace in Hendon - which I understand hasn't survived.

I am researching my own family history and therefore know the difficulties associated to this type of request (there are hundreds of examples of the name Davie on the web), but if anyone knows more about John, I'd be very grateful to receive the information on to him.

Many thanks for looking at this post.

Regards
