Kent / Re: POPE Baptism
« on: Wednesday 16 January 19 22:05 GMT (UK)  »
Lenham was where Martha was born so it's not a surprise that her son was baptised there. It appears that Martha was pregnant when she married William. William POPE was the son of a wealthy landowner and I doubt that his parents were pleased with there son having married "below one's station." Likely why William, Martha and infant emigrated to Canada in April 1842.

Kent / POPE Baptism
« on: Tuesday 15 January 19 00:01 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for the marriage of William POPE and Martha MILLS in 1841, and the baptism of their first child in 1841 or 1842. At the time of the 1841 Census William was living in Penshurst. Martha was a servant in his household. Marriage took place in Q4 1841 in the Sevenoaks Registration District. A child was born to them before they emigrated to Canada in April 1842. Did not find any POPE births recorded in the Severoaks RD in 1841 and 1842, however, the child may still have been baptised at Penshurst. Other possibilities include Lenham where Martha was born or Maidstone where William was born.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Newport IOW Burial - James Day

Thank-you for the information, and particularly the batch numbers. While the James you found is most certainly my James DAY, I'm not certain about Ann since there is also a burial for Ann "Widow" Day at Newport on 16 Sep 1788.

Looking for the burial of James DAY of Newport between 1785 and 1788. Also looking for the baptism of Stephen DAY at Newport about 1779, and for baptisms of any other children of James and Ann DAY.

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: St Helier, Jersey Parish Registers - LUCE

Follow up query. Ann Day LUCE's mother remarried between 1841 and 1851, so I'm looking for the marriage between Angelique LUCE (nee DAY) and Jean (John) AUBIN. Jean (John) AUBIN died between 1861 and 1871.

In my notes I have 16 children listed for John Day LUCE and Elizabeth Emma Josephine PARKER. I have birth/baptism dates for 12 of them at St Helier. The other four appear in census data. Four children were at home with their parents in 1871, nine in 1881, and seven in 1891, so it would not appear that all were sent away.

John Day LUCE is listed as a correspondent in the Tennyson papers held by the Lilly Library, Indiana University.

Hi

My Great Grandfather was John Day-Luce....
I think that I am right in saying that he had 13 children
From what I have been told the children were sent away to be raised by other people (not very nice).....my grandfather was sent to Portsmouth, in which area he lived until he died around the age of 98
It would appear that John Day-Luce claim to fame was,  he was acquainted with Lord Tennyson....indeed I have seen a letter from Lord Tennyson.....which I seem to remember commenced    "My Dear Day-Luce"      the letter and also a cigar case with the Tennyson coat of arms disappeared from grandparents home many years ago, when an unscrupulous antique dealer from Brighton "cold called" on them and relieved them of many articles/paintings etc.
I have been told by my cousin that a friend of hers saw this letter in a museum in Canada.

I have your great-grandmother and her siblings in my notes, but no birth, baptism, death or burial dates. I'm still looking for the marriage and death/burials of Ann Day LUCE and William George AUBIN. Ann Day LUCE, the daughter of Francis LUCE and Angelique DAY (1807-1893), was baptised at St Saviour, Jersey on 12 Dec 1830.

Hi,

My great grandmother was Anna Louisa Aubin daughter of Ann Day Luce & William George Aubin. Siblings were Walter Day, Herbert G., Percy Adrian & Harold Lewis.  She died in Vancouver, BC in 1944.  Anna Louise had 5 children (Vivian George, Juliet Annie, Robert Adrian, May Louise and Lillian) with at least 2 men although she seems to have been only married to Thomas Bray. May's death cert lists her father as Julius Adrian Aubin and Juliet's father is listed as Jules Adrien Le Crosnier (same guy??).  Lillian's father was Thomas Bray.  Not certain as to who Robert's father was nor who my great grandfather Vivian's father was (was rumoured that it may be a noble with the last name St. Germaine).  Vivian was born in Belgium but was taken straight back to Jersey Isl. Ann Day's mother seems to have been Angelique Day who was married to both a John Aubin & Francis Luce.  Walter's parents are more difficult to verify but best guess is George (b.1796) & Mary Aubin (b.1801). Love to confirm and figure all this out.
