I know this a long time after your post but I have only  just come across it. I live in Bournemouth and I  have had dealings with Turner's solicitors a number of times.  I have the 1911 census and have found the following

I know it was posted a long time ago but I have only recently read your posting about the mystery of the detective
I believe it says-  detective officer Gt No Raily   ie Great North Railway
If you print off the image  and then go over it with a pencil you get the feel for the script and I am 99% sure that is what it says.

Your post was also interesting to me as Charles hailed from Ringwood as does my family but I haven't found any Gattrills in it yet!
