Bertie Bolton born 1896 had a second marriage to a Gladys A (unknown) possibly in or around Suninghill. He died in 1964 at 48 Upper Village Road, Suninghill and we believe he ran a hardware shop there which had been owned by Gladys or her family.

Can anybody shed light on Gladys, the hardware shop or where Bertie was buried or cremated. any other snippets of information would be greatfully received. Thanks

Thank you for the information which is very usefull and fills in a few more gaps. I found out this morning that his uncle Tom Searle appears to be a red herring and he was in fact living with an uncle called William F Searle And Aunt Susan.
Once again thank you for everything.

Thank you for your prompt reply. My grandfathers middle name was Albert and he was born on 6th April 1904 (I have also found out the union infirmary was in Kingston not Wimbledon which is where his mother was living at the time). He was married to Esther Kavanagh although I did not know it was 1924. Their eldest child, Joan Mary Searle born 30th May 1925 was my mother.

I was told that he was brought up by an uncle possibly Tom Searle and that his mother later married a James Preston and had an extensive family in the East Ham area of London. I am in contact with some of my cousins from that marriage and although they knew my grandfather very well they are unable to shed any light on the Searle side of the family. Florence was born in Deptford in 1884 and her mother was Elizabeth Searle who was born in Walworth in 1851.

Any information on the Searles' would be usefull but my main interest at the moment is my grandfathers life between 1904 and 1925 when my mother was born.

Many thanks

Terry

I am looking for any information on my Grandfather Harold Searle (known as Bert). He was born at The Union Infirmary, Wimbledon in 1904 and his mother was Florence Searle (unmarried). He was brought up in or around New Malden by an Uncle and was a stone mason by trade.

My Great grandfather had a glazing business in Grafton Road New Malden which went out of business at some time before 1934. He continued to live in a house on the site with his daughter Alice Cairns until his death in 1943. I think that6 Burt Cairns (Alices husband) had a cobblers business on the site befor opening a shop in Elm Grove. Any information would be appreciated

The area around Eureka Road just off Cambridge Hill was known as Little Italy because of Italian families living there around the turn of the century. Hope this helps
